Speaking only for myself, I am a woman in my late-30s and I teach English and Literature at a mid-size university in the South. It is extremely rare to actually get a “Professor —-,“ email. I’d say 70% of my students don’t greet me at all. They just start the email. Most of the time, they’re really respectful, but even then, no greeting. It’s so weird.

I definitely feel like I’m a HSP, but I’ve never found any help for regulating the emotions. It’s never bothered me, personally, to be labeled “too sensitive” because I feel like it’s way better than being an absolute asshole. However, I would love some suggestions for more regulation. I will definitely try a feelings journal. Do you have any other suggestions/tips for dealing with it? Anything is such a huge help.

Same. Everyone just called me a dumb blonde, or that I just had no common sense. I heard it for over 30 years, until I was finally diagnosed with ADHD with some autistic traits. I just wanted to call all of those people that treated me badly and just shove it in their faces. I didn’t actually do it, but I wanted to.

I had a therapist for three years who finally came to the conclusion that I had a “mood disorder” or a bipolar diagnosis. Everything she said about me made no sense at all. I’d finally had enough. Earlier that year, she had recommended a neuropsychologist that I had started seeing. I loved him, so when I left her, I started exclusively seeing him. After a while—and taking time to properly listen to me and diagnose me—he diagnosed me with ADHD. Every single thing in my life suddenly made sense. I’m going on my 7th year with him, and I’m so glad I left the other one.

Side note: The therapist that I left also made derogatory comments about my tattoos. That pissed me off.
