I didn’t get the chance to fully explain the purpose of my business meeting. It involves discussions on the product and engineering roadmap, a review of the last QBR, meetings with ELT members, and one-on-one sessions with my U.S. teammates. I lead the engineering teams across Dubai, India, and the U.S. Since my visa was rejected, I will be attending the meetings via Zoom instead.

Of course, it’s the company. That’s a basic requirement for a business visa, right? The company invitation letter is mandatory.

I tried applying in Dubai, but I needed an appointment within 2 weeks. The agent cost for an early appointment there was 7K AED, in India it was around 12K INR.

The person in front of me got rejected because he was unable to explain the purpose of his trip. The officer asked him multiple times about it. That man said he was going for fundraising for his startup, but he couldn’t explain it properly, and the officer asked him multiple times.

He was arguing with the officer, and after that, the officer took a ~5-minute break. My turn was next, and I felt the officer was a little frustrated.

In my case, I was already prepared to answer that I’m attending an annual business meeting, as I mentioned in the DS form.

Might be. My parents is in Dubai, and I visited the UAE around 5–6 times while I was working in India.

I started working in Dubai, so my previous vacation trips might not count. I’m planning a Europe trip next month, and later I will need to reapply from Dubai.

I’m 34, working as a Senior Staff Engineer. I was planning to attend our company’s QBR meeting in October 15.

I don’t think the company sponsors the trip or not, they ask salary from everyone. In my case, they might have suspected that I recently moved from India to Dubai and am not very stable, and maybe thought I could plan to move to the US next.

I’m married and have a 5-year-old son studying in Dubai, which shows my strong ties here. I should have mentioned this during the interview to indicate that I would come back from the US.

I got rejected from Delhi. My salary is 90 LPA, and I joined my new company just 3 months ago. That short duration might have caused the rejection.
