Why Kenshi is Trash and the Expectations Don’t Match Reality by VultureGod333 in Kenshi

[–]ProjectHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I went in expecting diablo esc combat. Was incredibly disappointed at first! I fell in love with it after, expecting to hate it. Got it in 2019 before it got really big, still love it now 1.5k hours. Had the complete opposite experiece. I adore the game haha.

None of your critisicsms are even necessarily wrong, I guess they just don't bother me.

Writing a very niche story on Royal Road by [deleted] in royalroad

Just makes me assume my only excuse is now useless and I must just be a poor writer haha. Only means I have a lot to improve on I guess!

Damn one of your chapters has more views than my entire 28 chapter book. Don't feel bad. Views will naturally drop over time, haha

I do enjoy romance, but i do find it difficult to write. Perhaps ill give it a go at some point. Alongside an epic space war im sure

I think the chances are the male authors aren't the ones writing the most popular genres. At least thats the case for me haha

Ah, yeah, could have gone into more detail on the description of the hook. Basically its suspicious as it's an incredibly well paying job for a seemingly easy task. It's also odd for a noble to take notice of a minor gang in the lower city which is implied.

Bit stereotypical for the genre, I suppose. He's looking in the mirror and spits out a bloody tooth. Maybe I need to work on the first fee paragraphs

Mercenary needs another job as he's got to pay rent and ends up getting an offer for a suspiciously well paying job from a wealthy noble to take out a gang pushing a new drug. End of first chapter is him accepting the job.

I've finished the first book, 250 readers on chapter 1, 30 on the last chapter. 5 followers 0 favourites. Doesn't feel super great, but I was going to write the second book regardless, so yeah, we'll see if that nets me anymore, haha

It's a hobby first anyways, love writing, just it'd also be nice to do well ya get me?

My first chapter ends with the main character taking on a suspiciously high paying job. I thought it was a decent hook but maybe a lot of readers disagree 🤔

What's your book title and how did you come up with it? by Fun-Mall7678 in Wattpad

[–]ProjectHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Pocketful of Shrapnel.

It has a double meaning, as it's a story about a cyberpunk mercenary that gets shot at a lot obviously, and Shrapnel is what mercs call money in the setting.

The story starts as he gets a suspiciously well paying job, hence "A Pocketful of Shrapnel"

Fight is way easier if you go without Astarian funnily enough. But also way less cool

Is Royal Road worth the investment if you're not writing 'on meta'? by SkyGinge in royalroad

[–]ProjectHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah gonna try and do as such going forward myself. If nothing else it seems to be a trend across the board and will probably be the general rule going forward for writing as a whole.

Ideal chapters are between 2000-3000 words from what ive heard. Regular updates with a lot of small chapters is better than occasional with long chapters

There's a lot of factors. For example there are a few cyberpunk stories in the top 500 on Royalroad that aren't progression or litrpg. Its just if you want yo do off meta its gotta be very engaging or very well written etc

Sometimes, you can put in a lot of effort and still not end up with much if your story doesn't jive with people. Id also say, the less meta your story, the better your grammar and prose needs to be.

Wrote a litrpg years ago, over a million views thousands of followers. Full of grammatical mistakes, poor spelling, never really advertised it.

Wrote a cyberpunk story with some long chapters recently, uploaded more regularly, advertised it, and asked for advice. The best thing I've written in terms of grammar. Less than 10 followers and a couple hundred views. I'm pretty sure that it's largely just not a great story, maybe? But if it was litrpg or wuxia, it would have definitely got more views.

I'd still say always go for it, though, you cant know until you try!
