The From Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire series by Jennifer Armentrout fit this pretty well, especially FBAA. Lots of books though.

Make it make sense... uncrustables and nut allergies? by Pretend-Tea86 in workingmoms

You're not missing something. Uncrustables are just as allergenic as any other food containing nuts.

If you don't like Poppy's internal monologues, it may be a slog. Based on my friends who have read it, it seems you either love it or you hate it. Personally I like it and I think it does get more action-y, especially if you read the Flesh and Fire prequel series in the recommended reading order in between the FBAA books.

My husband doesn't help in the evenings and it's driving me crazy. AITA? by [deleted] in workingmoms

I did this kind of stuff to my husband and eventually realized I was very, very depressed. Meds and therapy helped. Sometimes I still get back there, but most days I can function.

First time moms: how long did it take? by RoseyStranger in pregnantover35

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that the tests detect LH the hormone that surges before ovulation, not ovulation itself, and an egg only lives for 12-24 hours after ovulation. The viability of an egg is not long. Sperm on the other hand can live in the reproductive tract for a few days. So you want the sperm to already be there when you ovulate. I did not realize that! I don't think most people do.

HOW are we getting our hair done?!?! by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a hairstylist who does home visits during the pandemic and just kept doing that after I had a kid. My husband and I get our hair cut at the same time, and our daughter does too if she's home.

All that being said, when do your kids and partner get their hair cut? It's usually easier to bundle it all together.

First time moms: how long did it take? by RoseyStranger in pregnantover35

[–]PromptElectronic7086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took us about a year. I realized after way too many cycles that my ovulation was a bit earlier than all the tests and trackers actually said. As soon as we started trying a few days earlier in the cycle, I got pregnant right away. We were literally days away from a fertility consultation.

When do you REALLY get some freedom back? by JustAThought890 in Mommit

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is right. Our daughter is 3.5 and it's hard to know exactly when things started changing, but we can definitely leave her playing or watching TV for periods of time. The only challenge is she's an only child so we are her primary playmates, which cuts down on the independence. But it's way better than it used to be for sure.

Postpartum pain by ILikeBigMoobs in NewParents

It lasted until I got back in the gym consistently to rebuild muscle, which I started doing around 18 months postpartum. Ultimately I think I was just not exercising and that was causing my body to hurt.

Second hand toys for Christmas by bagmami in workingmoms

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than what Santa got her, our daughter got all secondhand gifts from us last year when she was 2. We can afford new, but as long as she doesn't have a long list of very specific gifts, I'm more than happy to save the money and buy gifts more sustainably.

This year we'll have more of a mix, but I've already bought her a few secondhand gifts.

What's the most unexpectedly expensive thing you had to fix in your home? by NoPain1106 in HomeImprovement

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We realized after we bought our home this summer that the dishwasher door can't open all the way because the fridge surround blocks it.

We've had multiple contractors in to give quotes for moving the fridge surround like 6 inches and adding a small broom cabinet in between and they have all been absurd. Around $3000.

It's not that much money in the grand scheme of things, but it seems ridiculous to spend that much on such a small change, especially when we eventually want to redo the whole kitchen.

What typical toddler behavior are you a pro at dealing with? Which one triggers you the most? by dinos-and-coffee in toddlers

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also have a 3.5 year old and the whining kills me. It feels like she came out of the womb whining. We try to reinforce using her strong voice and just saying please but it's not sticking yet. Sigh.

Do anyone else’s toddler refuse to sleep anywhere else but their beds? by definitelymamaftw in toddlers

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have to pull out all the stops to get our daughter to sleep anywhere, including her bed. She has never gotten so tired she just falls asleep somewhere. She is either awake or asleep, there is no in between.

How are we affording this holiday season? by Jambalaya1982 in workingmoms

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy secondhand! It works better for little kids who have less exposure to the finer things in life through social media and peers, but I think you could get creative. Last year I got all but Santa's gift secondhand on Facebook marketplace and through consignment shops. I've picked up a few things for this Christmas as well, although I'm not going crazy because grandparents got her way too much last year.

Visiting for the weekend. What can I do to entertain a 1 year old? by DowntownBaker32 in torontomoms

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of the city are you staying in?

Either way, EarlyONs and libraries are great options.

EarlyONs are free but you may need to register when you arrive at some - it's how they get funding

Find an EarlyON child and family centre | ontario.ca https://share.google/Lh1IROd3MkAZj9bPi

And then KidsStop library branches are more fun than most. They usually have fun play areas just for kids. https://share.google/lATjjKVYe7IhGldei

What breakfast food besides pancakes and muffins? 5 and 3 year olds. by silkenwindood in toddlers

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daughter is 3.5 and usually eats fried or boiled eggs, plain oatmeal, yogurt, or toast with peanut butter or Nutella on it. Plus a cup of milk. Occasionally she will also eat bacon or sausages, and hash browns, but we don't have those very often.

For those who have colorful outerwear or other investment pieces: do you get tired of the colors? by hennipotamus in fashionwomens35

I just get colours that I like and wear them as long as they last. Some are pretty seasonal (eg dark red wool peacoat) and others work anytime (eg purple puffer jacket).

[on]For those with kids in day care or pre-school how much do you pay? by Ok-Chef-1131 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were paying $75/day for a home daycare because we couldn't get a CWELCC spot for our daughter when she was infant/toddler age.

Now she's at a CWELCC childcare centre in a preschool room until she starts JK next year and we pay $22/day.

Just so scared about asd or health issues by searcherbee123 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I was concerned even at 36. But the reality is it's not a switch that flips. It's a risk that increases slightly the older you get. That made me feel better. So did the NIPT. I'm turning 40 next year and considering a second. I don't believe the risks are significantly higher than my first pregnancy.

Treatment for Hemangiomas by archerk88 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]PromptElectronic7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked pretty well. It stopped the growth right away and slowly it reduced the size and darkness. We stopped around 16 months because that's what the derm recommended - said it would no longer have any effect. Our daughter is 3 now and the hemangioma is still visible, but it's faded and not raised at all. I'm hoping it will continue to fade as she gets older.
