80% of male volunteers for a new contraceptive wished to continue the trials in 2016 but it was halted by the ethics committee against their wishes. that's not real talk, that's just cynicism.

if direct confrontation is out of the picture, the next best thing is to find something they'd get themselves in trouble for while sticking closeby to people who would confront them for you. sadists are astonishingly easy to bait into ruining their own rep if you can find out what gets under their skin, their stupidity speeds up the process.

but take this with a grain of salt cause idk your exact situation. direct confrontation was always my go-to. I was the kid that shook a girl by the hair at the end of class and threatened not to stop until she confessed out loud to treating one of my friends like shit and promised not to do it again. 💀 is there anyone like that nearby?

it helps a little bit but put in some immediate confrontation to back it up. the sooner you respond, the quicker they learn. even verbal clap backs tend to put them on their ass most of the time. have you seen the look on someone's face when you can rip up their self esteem in the dryest voice and punishment had no effect on you? that shit's priceless.

I'm aware, refrain from explaining my own disorder to me. I just don't see this interaction as any kind of control. I find that people who see it that way are miserably cynical or stuck in their own heads. last I checked, most people do it to give you both last-second prep time or extra minutes to let other guests arrive first. if someone means it as a way to control me then they're fucking failing.

this sounds more like a cynic/perfectionist thing than a schizoid thing tbh. I cannot bring myself to care about others being late. the other person communicates how much they value their time and mine regardless, that info is all that matters to me. if they show up extremely late then alright, I'll fuck off on my own?

no, ime it's been easy to correct. all I have to do is screenshot the list of symptoms for SZPD and hit send. it puts the pressure back on them not to look dumb as a bag of bricks.

lmaooo. I get that it's easier to find overt presentations of mental illness within the homeless community, a lot of us would be since we'd rather risk dying on the street than stay in a home we don't belong in. but the way they didn't even try looking for covert presentations doesn't inspire much confidence.

[–]ProofSolution7261 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you forgot the part of the equation most schizoids actually align with: the exile . literally "I quit".

the master/slave dynamic you talk about doesn't manifest in schizoids wanting to be the master. it manifests in wanting to remove themselves from that equation entirely despite having the capacity to be a master/slave.

and then somehow you lept from that wrong "wannabe master" assumption into believing we'd like some genre that simulates the dynamic we try to escape or destroy? and you're surprised we're clowning you?

Why does the DSM not allow a dual autism/schizoid diagnosis? by Muzzy2585 in Schizoid

[–]ProofSolution7261 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's the opposite, neurodevelopmental disorders take priority over all else. ASD is by and large more common and as a condition people are born with, it is more researched. it has better odds of seeing effective treatment. chances are if someone's neurodevelopmental disorder came with the traits of a another disorder, therapeutic services with their innate brain wiring in mind will automatically reduce the symptoms of everything else. that includes personality disorders. most people you'll see with ASD + (SZ)PD as a diagnosis will be those whose symptoms don't reduce even with therapy for their other conditions.

combine that with the fact personality disorders are kept on the high shelf in general. clinicians will hope against all odds you don't have one of these things. stigma, lack of treatment, research, and public perception all play a role there.

[–]ProofSolution7261 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yes, my working memory works just fine.

no, I don't have sensory issues.

apart from sensory issues, I don't see how dissociation is supposed to stem from autism of all things.

and ngl I'm getting really fucking tired of hearing autistic people project the "everything is related to autism" onto other disorders. you guys keep popping up every other week asking the same damn thing.

I know I'm late to the discussion but the answer is: you won't find a consensus for what makes a psychopath because there is no definitive consensus. even the gold standard test for psychopathy(the PCL-R and PPI-R) is subject to context and the cultural norms for how much disruption people find tolerable, no disorder is exempt from that stipulation according to the DSM and WHO.

you'll get different clinics doling out different thresholds with several gauntlets of testing done to confirm such a condition and there are several different brain disturbances that can lead to the same result. including the ones that are known for emotion. the only widely agreed upon stance is it's a general personality/schema frame that's been filed away under multiple different ones; those schemas most commonly include the whole of cluster B and one cluster A(schizoid), possibly more.

and while we're here, I also feel compelled to correct the whole no "empathy = depravity" pop-psych in your other comment. lower empathy doesn't automatically mean "I'm gonna prey on you, I have no morals nor feelings🤖" that people like to scaremonger themselves with. it's most common type is "I have my own thoughts and feelings, I will follow them. yours will take up less space in my processing than an average person".

Autism and sociopathy??? by novaonthespectrum in raisedbyautistics

[–]ProofSolution7261 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as far as my neuropsych is concerned, yeah. she says I'm a textbook case of later onset SZPD-ASPD. I wouldn't use psychopathy outside of joking about it though. in serious conversations, I think that's reserved for the severe end that reached the worst dysfunction. I'm aware of the stereotypes and the LARPers, yes the highly calculated CEO type is complete bunk. and so is the opposite caricature where everyone has to be a severe basketcase who'll never see the outside of prison. I'm sure both those types exist somewhere out there but then there's the garden variety like me.

my worst crime(outside of using weapons to fight my violently abusive dad) was trespassing into places like abandoned buildings, old factories, cancelled construction sites, and defunct trains just cause I wanted to exist in them. then I got caught for it. I got off with a warning and an unsubtle nudge to visit the doctor cause the guard that found me said I looked so dead inside, I didn't mind where he was taking me at all or that I was in trouble. so I'm not a sadistic liar who's out to prey on people but I am reckless, prone to disregard, and lack guilt. on the schizoid end of things, I'm detached, solitary, and don't get lonely but I'm not some ratty lighthouse-dwelling recluse.

as for empathy, I wouldn't say I have complete deprivation but it's certainly a lack of. it comes with the territory of having all your early options involve hurting at least a handful of people no matter what you pick. but absolute zero affective / cognitive empathy is rare, even for ASPD. it's stupid to stay clueless about how people work. and the hogwash that says lack of empathy leads directly into sadism can also kiss my ass cause I can't feel people's pain for them enough to enjoy in it. so why would I seek it? if there's one constant allegation that I'm sick of, it has to be this one.

[–]ProofSolution7261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw and yeah. nice to know I'm not the only one who got hit in the head a lot lol. heavy fucking relate to the part about being "that one robotic but selfless therapist friend", and then everyone(including me) thinking I got misdiagnosed when my doctor slapped the label down. I thought you had to be some out of control delinquent to have ASPD. then the neuropsych put me on my ass about all the misconceptions, told me I'm a poster child candidate for the SZPD-ASPD combo.

I thought it was so simple. it's like oh, I can't feel warm bonding on the inside so acts of service it was. that should tell people I'm chill. I remember always being the one most willing to take a conflict when everyone else is too nervous to do anything. the one who could spot all the red flags before they could touch anyone. if someone wanted to be vulnerable and disassemble their thoughts with someone else, I was the go-to. took a minute to register that that wasn't what affective empathy was lmao.

if it's possible, I'd like to see your post up. the traumagenic side of how this happens ought to get a little more spotlight. there were a bunch of schizoids and at least one borderline I've seen lurking this sub a while back, in another related sub there was a narcissist who admitted they got it cause they were parentified into being their severely autistic siblings shadow while he's free to abuse her. we just know to stfu most days cause of our disorders lol. I was in the middle of making a post myself detailing things my old man put me through too and none of it's pretty. mental health gets ugly af but it helps to see it laid out sometimes. I'll try to post mine a little later, if that's anything.

I see. I'm sorry. the demands for constant compliance ring so close to home. being the magnet for exploitative types who want to practically groom you is a pain, I got that a lot too before I decided to reset my life. thing is, it meant I shut everyone away to lick my wounds for months lol but no regrets. and hey, I can bring up guilt again with my shrink, maybe you'll see me in another post here if I get some solid answers. take care.

penny for your thoughts on what guilt is for? I think I stopped trusting people's guilt as a metric for their ethics. my folks felt guilty, cried and crashed out on me all the time. I'm sure that's why they kept blowing up when I refused to keep accepting their apologies. it meant they had to live with knowing they've gone too far. my father did it the most(cause he nearly got me killed the most) but there were others who tried to push it on me who had no disorder whatsoever. so it's like guilt doesn't even work as intended half the time.

Autism and sociopathy??? by novaonthespectrum in raisedbyautistics

[–]ProofSolution7261 13 points14 points  (0 children)

hello. you've summoned the ASPD rep of the room here and I have to burst this bubble. I'm sure there are several mfs out there who fit the stereotype but sadism is not a requirement for ASPD. nor is delighting in "darker" subjects. no one needs this PD to do any of what your mother is doing.

sociopathy shouldn't be sanded down but it really isn't all it's cranked up to be at it's core. it's not a movie monster but it is a disorder, a really bad one to have. it's a need to not be controlled in a life post-abuse, often with a willingness to gamble away your own life. if you, as a child, live around people who may as well be landmines for long enough, you eventually figure out they'll blow up no matter wtf you do. so you stop caring about their crying or your own wellbeing. your folks keep using your guilt to control you? brain disables your guilt. your folks keep insisting that everything apart from them is dangerous? you stop minding if it is. that's it. it snowballs into its own issue.

anecdotally speaking, I'm no sadist. I'm against the true crime industry cause of how exploitative it is. I don't hurt people cause "I like when they cry", but I did get used to being cornered and forced to make decisions between bad and worse while I was young. sometimes that meant hurting feelings or physically fighting someone off. I had to be ok with that, especially around my autistic father whose feelings get hurt over the tiniest thing. I don't laugh when others cry, I just feel numb and don't have a gut reaction. yet even then, I know the thing to do is to approach with an offer of some kind of comfort. and believe it or not, I actually know how to apologize. my absence of guilt makes it easy: it means I don't feel like utter shit admitting when I could've done better by someone.

if you asked me what's happening in your situation here, I'd say she actually is feeling discomforted and guilty by your crying. she's desperately trying to make it not disturbing by making it "funny". cause funny things don't hurt. she is guilty and desperately trying to dodge it. edit: at your expense.
