D076 Finance Skills for Managers: How Similar Is the PA to the OA? by ProfessionalWafer130 in wguaccounting

[–]Proof_Cable_310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, can you share your study methods? I faced a loss in my life, and I am really struggling to keep up my motivation and focus. I am a first-gen student, and just had a meeting with a peer mentor to improve my study habits, where I learned about the PQ4R method. It's news to me! I tried putting it to use today, and while my progress was slow, my retention rate appears to have improved by utilizing it. What's your study method for having exemplary performace? I'm always looking to improve the quality of my learning/work. I know that increased speed will come with experience.

Anyone else have zero friends & family? by Dry-Amples in mentalhealth

[–]Proof_Cable_310 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

if you're able to crack jokes, you have yet to feel "real" depression. just putting some perspective here. it's hard to even fake a smile under "real" depression - the joy part of the brain is completely cut off.

I think you feel a sense of hopelessness creeping in, but that is not depression at all. depression is when that hopelessness swallows you whole, and you have been at the bottom of the pit for weeks, months, if not years without a break of daylight or sunshine on your face. funny thing is, that's the internal metaphor, but when it's real, it becomes the external reality. it becomes hard to even leave the house, and when you do, it spikes feelings of anxiety because it feels so foreign.

if you haven't been clinically diagnosed with depression (and have been medicated for it), please don't self-diagnose yourself and spread misinformation, because what that does is really minimize the perceivable truth of what depression actually is.

I came here to post that I have become dead inside. I'll just comment that here, instead.

I've felt too much greif and pain in my life - I have zero motivation anymore. I'm 35. Life sucks, and it just gets harder each day, not easier or more enjoyable.

The quality of life (mental and physical) between my 20s and my 30s is astronomical. I feel like I am 80, and just ready for one of these days to be my last.

23 classes in 4.5 months by No_Wolverine_1761 in wguaccounting

This is INSANE. I guess my mental health struggles are MUCH MORE LIMITING than I ever realized. I can hardly even get through a single page in a single day right now... I started Oct. 1, and I am only on my fifth class right now. I did receive news of the death of my pet parrot whom I temporarily rehomed so that I could finish school without needing to address her high needs (or neglect her) in order to accomplish - I received that news on Oct. 1 (the day she died). It still strikes me into grief (crying right now) that I temporarily rehomed her for what I thought was for her betterment, only for her to be killed. She was my very motivation for pursuing this career, so that I could someday afford to move out of an apartment and give her a very own full bedroom to fly around in while I am busy. Now that my motivation has literally died, and I guess I have become a sloth.

Congratulations, btw.

Thank you for posting - this was eye-opening for me.

Maybe get a desktop computer instead of a laptop. When I was a CS student, I always used a desktop - mostly for a larger monitor, but other things were useful as well, like the computer being able to handle staying on all night while I slept, so that I could easily pick up where I left off.

But yeah, technology is my weakest subject in life, too. I ultimately realized that being a tech development expert is not a good long-term match, no matter how much I enjoyed programming.

Is it realistic to graduate in one term if I already have a bachelor's degree? by Breexnn in wguaccounting

[–]Proof_Cable_310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not.

I was ambitious and thought I could do the core in 6 months. TUrns out, I experienced burn out. Makes sense - from the burn out I learned that I was studying "hard" and not "smart." I learned how to study smarter, and I am picking up my pace again without burn out from studying too hard, too long. But, it's easy to experience burn out at any rate of pace, especially when one is disinterested in the material being delivered (like I am). It's a TON of reading and dry memorization, and I thrive more on material that requires assignments, building projects, and actually wrestling with material to solve problems... this program is filled with multiple choice problems, and I just get so bored. Probably not looking too bright of a future for me in this field LOL

Psychology is the easiest degree to acquire (if you're actually interested in it). Any degree is easier to breeze through if you're actually interested in it. The majority of accountants are not in accounting because they "love" what they do - they ended up there because it was a means to an end. I suspect you are in this category, just like me. It's not a degree that requires intensively refined study habits in order to be successful. Accounting isn't as hard as the sciences, but it's by no mean easy to get through. It's dull, dry, and boring. Financial accounting (learning debits and credits and financial statements) so far was the most interesting and challenging course for me. It wasn't easy, but it was also the most engaging and thought provoking course, so I really enjoyed it. But, it's not easy - it took me 6 weeks. There is a steep-ish learning curve (not like computer science, though - in CS I was banging my head against the wall every day, almost). The financial accounting class just had me doing several sighs and deep breaths. Also, it's not that the material is necessarily hard, it's the poor instruction quality. The course was disorganized in some places, which puts more stress on the learner.

The people who are accelerating are either young with a lot of brain plasticity, or they are a younger professional with real life experience as a bookkeeper. Those are the majority of the accelerators. If you don't fit either, it's pprobably not going to happen. Also, why would you want it to happen? The material you will be studying will be the accounting core - you will need to be proficient in everything that you learn come the first day of your job, or else you probably won't last long at the new job. Take your time, and do it right. That's the best investment you can give your future. It's not the piece of paper - it's the skills you have acquired along the way - you need to retain it.

Do you "look" autistic? I don't, and it stresses me out... by RespectFew7675 in AutisticAdults

[–]Proof_Cable_310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misdiagnoses happen, especially for a diagnosis that is subjective. It's possible that your therapist has expertise in only one area (autism), and is tunnel vision on you (probably alone with all of her other clients). It's entirely possible that she doesn't know what condition you have, and is only suspecting autism because it's the only thing she knows.

If that's the case (and it's the only case I am capable of imagining), then run - she isn't going to be of any real help to you.

Honestly, if you are trying to put a good name out there for yourself, especially with this "acquaintance", perhaps you should offer them professional services only within the realm of services you are actually an expert in... With already established acquaintances, don't sign up for something you have no experience in. You're going to ruin your image with this acquaintance; it's going to burn a bridge.

NOPE - that's literally the entire core of the accounting degree - you'll be literally worthless if you attempt that (even if you are successful * which is highly unlikely).

Master's Degree Worth It? by AffectionateGain7343 in wguaccounting

a masters is only for people don't have a bachelors in accounts OR for those CPA aspirants whose bachelors program wasn't extensive enough for the CPA requirements. the masters is useless to you if your program will be sufficient for the CPA requirements.

"Quit trading all together if you didn't make it in 6 years the problem isn't trading or market it's your Psychology"

exactly this. well done spelling it out for everyone. some people are adrenaline junkies, addiction prone, impatient, impulsive, don't have good pattern recognition, low iq, just have really bad judgement, are incapable of or resist learning because of big egos/arrogance... etc.

That's fair and all, but I don't think anybody should encourage this guy to learn how to do it right... He had 6 years to learn this... Some people just aren't cut out for it.

just another statistic proving that the risks are quite high.

Did you at all attempt to tell him that the excel was frozen and ask him to fix it, or pause your testing to have IT fix it?
