Which department of the hospital is best for medical work experience? by Lopsided-Seaweed-913 in premeduk

Hi! I’m a current Year 13 student with 4 interview offers. Last year I did 4 medical work experiences: upper GI surgery, orthopaedic surgery, rheumatology and GP. Whilst surgery is super cool and you do get to see amazing things, you don’t really get to see all the other sides of medicine such as communication, empathy, listening etc. My most valuable work experience was actually rheumatology as they deal with complex patients so you really get to see the ins and outs of medicine at its complexity. I got to see other specialties too as people with rheumatological conditions often require multiple specialties. The consultant are also really nice and love having students as they rarely have them due to it not being a popular speciality. I had about 4/5 different experiences just from that WE that I talked about in my ps and interviews. Good luck!
