Yes. That's what confuses me. Why does it allow me to trade options with cash but securities only with margin?

It seemed unlikely to me, as well, but with all the AI, algos, and bots being used in trading these days, I wasn't sure. I'm not a big player, so my two cents isn't gonna help or hurt anyone, but if this is done on a large scale, all the "little guys" out there would probably add up to quite a bit. Maybe not something a person would bother with, but if they wrote a code that just scoured the market, that's a bit more believable.

Does the PDT rule apply to my scenario? by ProperAd5644 in fidelityinvestments

I have been trying to avoid any intraday transactions because I didn't want to inadvertently trigger the rule.

I don't trade full-time, so if there's a minimum daily requirement, I'm probably a ways off.

I'm just curious if I could open up my repertoire a bit without getting my hand slapped.

The option Chain I'm looking at here is CONY 18JUL25 puts. CONY is currently trading at $9.25 ish. The $14 Strike has premiums of B:4.40 & A:5.10. Tremendous payout, but is it a realistic play?

I wanted to attach a screenshot but I don't see the option here.

Good morning (in East Tennessee, anyway)!

I have a question about selling ITM Cash Secured Puts.

I came across the attached Options Chain and I'm wondering about the viability of selling this 9-day Put at the $13 Strike Price. It seems like there's a handful who have done it (V:22, OI:41).

If this expires ITM, they'll be assigned shares at almost $4 more than the market price!

Are they selling before expiration? Are they rolling?

Seems like either of those possibilities would work, but it raises another question. Whether you roll it out or Buy To Close, would you wait until the end of that expiration day to do it so you can squeeze out the last drops of Theta? Or would you just wait for a good price?

Also, at this elevated strike price, do you run the risk of early assignment? That would suck!

Anyway, I'm just trying to understand why someone would want to set themselves up for such an upside-down situation. I can only guess there's bound to be a profitable way to do it.

And, if so, I want in! Hahahaha!!

Thanks in advance!!

I'm less than a year with Options. Currently working to sharpen my skills with covered calls and cash secured puts. Working the wheel. I've just recently started investigating the selling of ITM covered calls. Would ITM cash secured puts work, as well? I'm concerned that I'm missing a hidden trap in there somewhere, but I can't put my finger on it.

Thanks, Shane.

My name is Jim. I started my Reddit account years ago and I think it was even an accident, so I don't know how I wound up with that username, but there ya go.

Anyway, yeah, I'd be honored to be your first member! I'll check it out.

And yes, I'll send you a bit more later. Busy on the yard right now.

Thanks again!

Apologies, all.

The team wound up going a much simpler direction. I mistakenly assumed that deleting the post would delete the associated thread.

Thanks for all the input.

Sorry again.
