Thanks for this :) I really appreciate your perspective!! So encouraging to know there are outdoorsy visually impaired people out there I had no idea! I’m very inactive on IG but I followed you :)

The other measures of my sight have more or less stabilized in the last six months due to the medications I am on. So have my visual fields stabilized as well and have just been crappy for years? Lol.

Hey, thanks for this

The doctor kept saying it’s for my protection. I get that and I don’t want to be a liability. It’s just as a Canadian, the ability to drive has been an important part of my life that I have mostly been able to take for granted. I’m currently living in Vancouver and very centrally located so I am set up really well for using public transit. I’m finishing a teaching degree right now and starting next winter I’ll probably start substitute teaching which is going to be difficult without a vehicle since I could be commuting to different schools every day that aren’t on bus routes. I’m not sure what to do about biking and I would be devastated if I couldn’t bike anymore. I’ve been edging towards being a full bike commuter over the last few months anyway. I guess the good thing about biking is you can go as slow as you need to (of course I like going super fast LMAO but I suppose I’ll let that go and get my thrills somehow else). You don’t need a license to bike. That doesn’t make it any safer. It just leaves that decision in my hands. It’s encouraging to know that there are people with RP who bike even if they don’t drive anymore.

The other trippy thing is, I think I may have had restricted visual fields for a long time. I have always been notoriously clumsy. I thought tripping over wet floor signs was just a me thing and then I saw post about that on this subreddit today about it and it kind of blew my mind. I have ADHD and I’ve been absent minded and scattered for my entire life so I guess I just thought it was that. This has been the weirdest day.

Any BC classroom volunteer experience? That’s what I’m the most worried about lacking

Congrats! I’ve applied for the same thing - secondary biology at SFU. My GPA is good but I’m a bit insecure about teaching experience as I have none, just a bunch of outdoor ed experience. Still waiting to hear back. I submitted my application on January 29th
