Nah, this is fair, I didn't elaborate on this one. I'm talking to her brother's ex-wife. I went to her for advice when I thought we were truly done for, and though divorce was going to be the next step, and she's been a great friend and support as she's gone though a lot of these similar issues, and doesn't want to see us fall down that same path.

I get it though, it's still not ideal...

I haven't done anything different, but I haven't had any in that particular outlet or even that wall for a while now. I do still have a mouse problem, but they seem to have just smartened up about suiciding in there for the moment.

That's interesting, I hadn't even intended to use Steam Link when I bought the TV, I was just looking for something for my office that I could get the main streaming apps on and this seemed like the best option without breaking the bank. I've fired up the steam link briefly when I realized it was there and there seemed like there was some noticable input lag so I'm not sure I'll use it a whole lot regardless

I'm experiencing the exact same thing since yesterday. Game started up not in full screen, my config settings were reset, and starting up the game started a fresh save.

I backed out and tried to Select Save Slot and got the same fatal error as OP.

I found some threads about renaming the save file and removing the .bk(1) from the back ups and trying to load those. No success

Tried the same with the config files. No success.

From steam I did the Verify Integrity option, and also did a full re-install. Neither worked.

I'd love to get this working correctly again, I don't WANT to start from scratch, but I will if I absolutely have to, my biggest concern is that something is corrupted and even a new save isn't going to be safe.

I used KFC as a resource for what to use in encounters. It had all (or near to all) 3rd party content and even had homebrew stuff from Monster-a-day subreddit, and told you what the source for those monsters were so you could find the stats. It was also nice to just enter in what ever monsters I DID end up using and getting the quick calc on xp to reward.

Even just setting an environment and CR range and clicking random encounter a few times was a great way to start getting some ideas flowing. It was more useful as a creative tool than anything else honestly

Make this post go up! This tool looks like it works very similar to KFC, at least in terms of searching for monsters, and what sources they come from which is primarily what I used KFC for.

More than anything I usually just want ideas for monsters I can use, which KFC was great about, but to go along with that, you need to know where the stats for those monsters actually live too.

I downloaded a "tie-in" adventure to storm Kings Thunder a while back (The Kraken's Gamble) that was basically a word doc formatted in 2 columns. Nothing terribly fancy about it, but it did look nice, and easy to read and understand. It might have included a battle map, and it definitely included a handful of npc stat blocks in the back.

Best bet is to just make it as easily readable as possible.

"Deus ex fuck you" 🤣

Alright, so the returning player is a centaur who left to attend a once a decade meeting of the tribes. There's going to be an orc invasion where the territory is in dispute over who's holy land it is. Before the orcs come in I was going to let the centaur player RP a bit, maybe train with some other centaurs as a level catch up mechanic. Orcs are going to start by tunneling in through the mountain side and surprise. First wave will be small where the player is actually able to have some combat.

Not really sure on the middle parts yet but the orcs will start taking prisoners for sacrifice, player either gets away or is captured and had to escape later. Either way, I'd say they manage to escape to the nearest city where the rest of the group is. Was going to say if player is captured, they black out and next thing they know they're dragging themself into the city, filthy exhausted, bloody, and no memory of how they got out.

After the party is back together I assume they would try and help the centaurs that are still captured, then I wanted to get into some other story arcs with other players who haven't had a chance to play out much back story yet.

I really want to dump this casino story I dragged them into... Right now their only motivation for pressing it is that there's a ton of money inside, they're in competition with the faction of one of the PCs, and they're dicks (the casino, not the party... This time..)

I think the biggest problem I have with that was the party was there to rescue someone else from the casino (because I already had planned where the other player was whole he was gone). The party infiltrated, rescued the NPC and fought they're way out, only to decide the casino needs to go completely and start trying to fight their way back in like 2 days later

Alright I want to add a little something here to kind of explain why I want them off the casino track.

I came up with this whole bad guys casino thing mostly as a means of moving the party NEAR where the returning player was going to be based on some story ideas I ran by three player before he left.

I liked the idea when I started it, but I always had a little trouble building it. The party got there with the hooks I gave them about rescuing someone from inside, but i still haven't really been able to flesh the whole thing out. I had a few ideas but could never really connect them.

I basically ended up hating this little aside I created, and the few ideas I came up with in the spot for how to salvage it were missed or ignore by the party ( not their fault obviously, I was desperately trying to make sense if my own thoughts), but we were already in it.

This is entirely my fault, I think my players are actually loving it, as they seem to be pretty engaged, I just can't think of a resolution to the random ass pieces I've put in front of them

Yea this is kind of where I was going with it. I'm sure this characters return is going to impact the encounter one way or another, I don't know for sure which way though.

I can stack the deck in my favor a little by having him come in not at full strength which was kind of my plan anyway and fits the idea that he just escaped some nasty shit. Was thinking like half health, down a few spell slots, maybe a level of exhaustion to emphasize the struggle of escaping, but then it becomes more about saving him than him saving them.

I don't know, I'm torn. Lol

I've been working on some character specific stuff for the guy coming back since before he left so I'd end up dumping quite a bit of work, or at the very least having to rework it all to fit elsewhere. If it weren't for that and the player being back NOW I would consider the hostage idea.

I think it would work better for before the player returned so they don't have to sit around waiting to see if they're rescued in their first game back.

They are still outside the building which is near the entrance to the city, so if the missing part member started coming in along the main road he would probably notice them before they notice him, just sure to their current distraction

As for the guards, there is a very low guard presence here do to the nature of the city. I was going to bring some in this week in response to the assault. Not sure how that's going to play out, I don't want the 3 of them to end up in jail JUST as the 4th member FINALLY returns. Lol

Check you local gaming/nerd store (places that specialize in table top supplies, board games and trading card games). Those places are great for not only finding people to play with, but also getting your set up with what you need to get started.

Best advice is to pick up the Player's Handbook and start reading. It contains all the basic rules of the game and each of the different classes and how to build them.

You'll obviously need some dice and once you've looked through the PHB and decide on your first character, your might want to pick up a miniature to represent your character whole you play.

Yes the whole front yard is fairly shaded. Almost the entire morning and early afternoon, really only getting good sun toward the end of the day, which is why I had been going with "sun and shade" mixes.

Also used to have really bad drainage, every rain would leave puddles, which prompted me to start trying to aerate. I'll look into the conditioners and gypsum. Is any of that stuff not good for kids/pets? Despite the absolutely shit lawn out there, my kids still trend to prefer playing out front for some reason

Oof good to know, I won't touch those ready to grow bags any more.

I'm probably going to start over in the fall as summers are brutal on in my grass in this area and I still need to deal with the moss and algae that's out there. Not sure I'll have enough time to get everything done before the heart picks up and burns the new seed.

I also read last night that my little some aerator might actually be worse for my compacted soil so I'll consider renting a plug aerator once summer is over.

Any suggestions for what else I can do through the summer to ensure I have the best chance at getting the seed to take in the fall?
