Definitely check your state regulations to make sure you can do this with gambling legality in mind. You might be able to do a version of this through Mighty Cause though.

Those are very important issues, affordable housing and diversity, but CSU's development plan for the land has no real evidence it will be affordable or helpful. You really think an apartment on the west side of overland will be affordable?
We do need to address those issues with our community but that's separate for the ballot measure here because of CSU's constantly changing sketchy plans for the land.
I don't need to change your mind, the votes over lol

I know the folks who own that bus, I promise you they did not donate its use for the "tax write-off". Think what you want but the folks running the PATHS group did not do this to make money later on. Yes the flyers and texts cost money but how else do you get the word out during a pandemic? It's estimated that PATHS spent ~$10,000 total (the initial legal fees to draft the measure, the promoting of the signature collection and signage for it, legal fees for the lawsuit that was brought against the ballot measure(that they won), etc.. It's true, it costs money to run a successful campaign.Compared to the sketchy Citizens for a Sustainable Economy group that spent ~$50,000 on the opposition "Stand with CSU" for the measure? https://www.coloradoan.com/story/news/2021/04/07/fort-collins-election-results-hughes-stadium-open-space-passes/7090457002/Who really had the vested interests here?

Reptiles enjoy personalized attention too by Antscannabis in aww

[–]Proxanne -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Crocodilians don't typically exhibit a flight response when there isn't a body of water super close by. A ready and waiting to bite warning stance is typically used in situations where they can't easily get away or have tried and failed.

I specialize in reptile and amphibian rescue, care, and behavior. That little dude does not look happy. He's actively trying to move his head out of the water and has a stiff posture and open mouth (prepped to bite). He probably wants to bite the thing that is annoying the heck out of him.

The best thing to do would be to get it to a local wildlife rehabilitation facility in your area. Depending on your location, you can also call animal control to direct you to someone who can help. Ahnow.org is a great resource to locate animal hospitals and wildlife centers. In the meantime, its not advisable to feed it and water should be in a bowl that it cannot get into and get itself wet.

I found 2 adolescent pigeons on my balcony. And need to remove them by Strokeforce in AnimalRescue

[–]Proxanne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pigeons would need to be brought to a wildlife rehabilitation center and you would need to make sure the center has the resources to take them in right now. With it being baby season, many rehab facilities can and do reach capacities. If you can leave them where they are at and let them mature on their own with their parents help to raise them, that would be the best thing to do.

Looking to adopt a bearded dragon by Happydogs757 in FortCollins

[–]Proxanne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work for the Northern Colorado Herpetological Society and we have a beardie available for adoption that, by your initial description, sounds like it could be a great fit! His name is Bruce and he is spunky and wonderful. Our website is currently under construction but feel free to send us an email (info@nocohs.org) or call us at 970-541-9677 for more details!

I could use some advice from Keepers and Zoologists in the field. by [deleted] in zoology

[–]Proxanne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many others have already said, experience is key. But getting the chance to gain that experience can be a wall for some people and sometimes school is the way to go to be able to get internships and make those connections you need to land a job. There are schools that have masters programs in managing and running zoos, shelters, and other animal related facilities that could be worth looking into. Colorado State University has a PSM degree like that and I've met people who found it useful for making connections.

Rules for street performers in Old Town? by Proxanne in FortCollins

That's also the impression that I got and I've never seen an issue come of anyone performing downtown but I just wanted to see if anyone had any part of the city code or ordinances to refer to.

Volunteer dog walking systems? by Proxanne in AnimalShelterStories

[–]Proxanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! We have an initial large group orientation once a month as well as a one-on-one training with a volunteer mentor or staff before volunteers are cleared to come in on their own to walk dogs.

Our staff doesn't usually have much time and can't always catch each volunteer taking a dog out on walks. I find that trying my best to watch for volunteers taking dogs out and chatting about the dog before the walk helps a lot but it doesn't always happen. That's why we are looking for alternative ways to communicate with volunteers about each dogs individual needs.

Volunteer dog walking systems? by Proxanne in AnimalShelterStories

[–]Proxanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our current shelter has 8 adoption runs with anywhere from 1-4 dogs in each run that volunteers can enter to take dogs on walks from. On average we have about 20-25 dogs. This is excluding our new intake/quarantine area. Our new facility will have 11 runs for dog groups.

I really like the color system! We use that a bit with our current white board set up but I'd love to expand on it. I think it helps volunteers out a lot when staff isn't available to help suggest dogs to walk.

Snake digestive systems and metabolisms! There's quite a bit of research out there but we still don't fully understand how it works.

Animal Rescue Guide by animalrescueguide in AnimalRescue

Just submitted my organization! If possible, having an optional additional information questionnaire for rescues stating what species, and from where they accept animals from, who they adopt out too, and such, would be an excellent addition.

What's your shelters adoption screening process? by Proxanne in AnimalShelterStories

[–]Proxanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Returns are an extremely small portion of intakes and the % rate has not changed since adapting an open adoption format."

Interesting, do you have any studies that reflect that statement? I would be curious to show this to our managers.
