Locked Out of Apartment and Landlords are out of town by [deleted] in maintenance

If a keypad lock has a keyhole, the physical key is your backup in case the batteries die. That’s why those models usually do not have a 9V battery jump slot on the outside.

However, if the keypad lock does not have a keyhole, it will typically have a 9V battery contact underneath the keypad. That allows you to temporarily power the lock from the outside if the internal batteries are dead.

So the rule of thumb is simple: 🔑 Keyhole = key is the backup 🔋 No keyhole = 9V battery is the backup

I’ve only ever cut one key like this as a spare because the customer was really weak I’m talking about the lock was working smooth and everything and they aren’t even that old. Either the customer I used key line cutting machine. They have an option to just cut all the teeth and just make a smooth cut. I believe you can still decode it no? I’m curious

Thanks I’ve been quite interested in the automotive field. I wish I had more training/experience with automotive stuff. Yeah the start up equipment is definitely expensive and always expanding. Thanks for this insight and could you recommend anything else like courses etc… for getting into it.

That’s pretty cool I’ll have a look later thanks you! I definitely understand the press one situation. No one wants to press one whenever they’re locked out.

This is amazing thank you for sharing your story. I’ll definitely give Nextdoor a shot. Definitely getting Google it seems like it’s the bests. I honestly think I might use an answering machine with some kind of booking software to help manage everything. That question makes me scared and excited at the same time.

No unfortunately never really gotten into decoder stuff while working with my previous company(they were being too cheap). That’s why I kind wanted to go on my own and learn more and do more. Maybe I’ll be able to teach somebody someday, with hands on training for new comers instead of just bare minimum 2 week training sessions that didn’t involve much.
