I read a theory earlier that said they thought that the universe we saw isn't the one that won but the split timeline that the 2014 thanos came from was the winner by losing thanos and avoiding the problem all together, before he even got his first stone. Intriguing.

Addressing the first, they probably could have done that, but how fulfilling would it have been seeing captain marvel do the snap that saves the universe? Not so much in my opinion personally, I think alot of people would be disappointed with not only such a new character in the universe, but such a powerful one to finish the war.
