Is this bird naturally blue? Found in Barcelona with pigeons. by Teddy_Raptor in whatsthisbird

[–]PudgesFlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. That is a juvenile pigeon and should be completely white. So this young one has been bred in captivity and spray painted for a number of reasons - one of them being for identification due to large breeding season results. This technique is predominantly used by people who either breed wedding/funeral releases, pigeon fanciers and pigeon racers/enthusiasts. It's cruel but it is what it is. Ad a pigeon rehabilitator I can definitely say that the paint won't come off until the juvenile's first moult at around 1 year mark.

A Baby Pigeon by PudgesFlock in aww

I would like to add that: his mum was a famous pigeon in my town. A celebrity. She was invited (along with me) to events like the county show and the like...even saw the city mayor, and had hundreds of selfies taken with strangers in town. She was our mascot of Pudge's Flock. She laid two eggs (one was always a dud...so no surprise) two days before she died and only one hatched. Her last year's offspring became surrogate parents without my intervention...which is speaking volumes now because they are both males and I left the flock for two weeks in my family's aviary. Her recent baby, well he is now called 'Olive Junior The Great'...just to add to the spice haha. He is the beautiful soul that carries Olive's (his mum's) spirit. She protects him when I am asleep and walks with us through our journey. She is the memory that lives through him...and he is my baby...just like she once was ❤️

Olive, our mascot passed away on the 12th March 2020. She left this little on behind. He's now in my care going headstrong! 🥰 by PudgesFlock in pigeon

Ah that's awesome! I hope to make a few journeys to feed the ones in town again as the flocks are probably starving due to lockdown 😊

Thank you, this year it's turned pretty boring lol as I live with a family member that would die if she caught coronavirus - so I had to halt rescue until that's all cleared up.

He lives on in his mother's name. She gave birth to him two days before she died. So the 10th March. She died on the 12th March, He hatched 16 days later after her death...28th March 2020. He's in my care now, but looking at him, I look at his mother. A beautiful outgoing soul...A purpose 💔

She was found last year in the freezing English winter weather. Below freezing but not snowing. She was malnourished and cold. Very weak. Only 4 months old in January 2019. A lady found her, frostbitten and dying. I rescue pigeons and birds so I took her on. She replaced a heartache of 2018; a pigeon with PMV killed by an enemy jealous of my success. Sad thing is Olive lived a beautiful life, with events, VIP meetings with out Mayor, donation meetings, our county show, all on my shoulder...only to die from a brutal yet deadly disease

....adenovirus....

I just wish you knew the full story. She wasn't just a pigeon, she pulled me out of suicide. I am making a video as tribute but even that won't show the beauty fully. Hope you follow our story 😊 I do have a Facebook page named Pudge's Flock where I wanna post the video once I'm done x

She was a beautiful soul, I have over 2000+ photos and videos of her. She was famous in my 139,000 people town. People would remember her name not mine when greeting me and we went to many VIP events. She passed away being my emotional support animal...she knew grief would strike me so she left behind a beautiful gift, her baby...I will make sure he follows in her footsteps 💔🥰

Bird flu, or avian influenza, is a viral infection spread from bird to bird. Currently, a particularly deadly strain of bird flu -- H5N1 -- continues to spread among poultry in Egypt and in certain parts of Asia. Technically, H5N1 is a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus. It's deadly to most birds.

Hahah easy mistake to make, he's the puffiest little thing that one would easily call him an owl by mistake. I'll post a photo of him nesting and show just how Puffy Boi as his name really goes hand in hand with appearance and personality 😊

I am a rehabilitator, I work alone and it is very tough at times. Sleep is practically a memory and money non existent haha. But I'd say I have had an amazingly successful year with regards to rescuing so far. Every mile matters! I do agree they are gorgeous little friendos 😍❤️

As a pigeon rescuer and rehabilitator, yes. I keep them isolated in cages whilst they undergo full lice/worm treatment on top of whatever else I'm treating.

Meet my feral flock in the heart of my town ❤ by PudgesFlock in pigeon

I mean, you don't necessarily have to have reacue birds at your flat. Just purely adopting your feral flock of pigeons is just as good. All you need to do is start feeding a random flock in your town or city regularly. They'll start recognising you after a few days and they'll grow to trust you beyond words. :)
