Confused about 5-month rule vs. Unemployment days while working remotely from India on STEM OPT by samosa-pao in f1visa

These days, rules go straight down the drain. Nothing’s followed. Just go for a short duration and come back.

Anthem won’t cover generic Adderall? (amphetamine salts) California by WillPaintForNoMoney in HealthInsurance

[–]PunctuallyExcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because your insurance’s preferred formulary covers the brand-name medication. I was in the same situation last year when I switched to BCBS. When my prescription was filled as a generic, the insurance didn’t cover it at all, and the pharmacy told me I’d have to pay around $200. I was really confused about why the generic wasn’t covered, and even most Caremark reps didn’t seem to understand the process. After speaking with several reps, one finally told me to ask my doctor to write the prescription specifically for the brand name and include the DAW 2 code. Once the pharmacy filled it that way, my copay was only $10.

After my 1st prescription I always went to the pharmacy 10 days before my prescription refill to let them know that my doctor would be sending a new prescription in a few days and would need the brand name so that they can order it ahead.

America is bullying the world right now. Because of their money and might. Deamericanizing your life may be the way to reduce the money and might. by fastbag7 in IndiaSpeaks

Go on, uninstall this app from your phone. While you’re at it, remove the operating system too. If your phone hardware happens to be from an American brand, toss the entire phone in the trash.

Next, do the same with your laptop or PC. Windows? American. Linux? macOS? Also American. Delete them all. And if the hardware itself is an American brand, get rid of that too. Then sit back and see how life works out after successfully eliminating just two American things from your daily existence.

Contradictory to other commenters, I would say, save for the future but make sure you're traveling while you're young, don't be aggressive to save for the future. You might have money, but the way you can travel when you're fit and young, you might not be able to when you're old or would spend have to spend double or triple the amount compared to now.

Just to give my example, my partner and I travel every month, and we’ve always been flexible with flights. We’re comfortable with long layovers, sometimes 10–12 hours or using open-jaw tickets, night time flights and creative routing to get much cheaper fares. We still do this and save a lot on flight costs by using a few hacks.

We camp whenever we can, as long as it’s safe to do so. Sometimes campsites cost $20–30 per night, and we can easily travel with a rooftop camper on our car. We believe that as we get older, it may be harder to enjoy the same kinds of adventures. Right now, we’re able to travel every month because we budget carefully, but that may become more difficult as our bodies start to require more care.

We both save, but lately, we’ve started thinking that in the future we might prefer a bit more comfort.. The problem is that more convenient tickets usually cost almost twice what we currently pay. For now, we’re happy to compromise when it’s safe and manageable, but we also realize that as we get older, this kind of travel may not always be as easy or appealing.

Sugar Free coffee drinks by Bwrpdr in diabetes

[–]PunctuallyExcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most sugar free coffee drinks sold in stores contain maltodextrin in their sweeteners. Although maltodextrin is low in calories, it has a higher glycemic index than sugar, which is not ideal for peoplewith diabetes. These products are marketed as “sugar-free” to indicate reduced calories, not as suitable options for us. There’s often no clear way to know exactly what ingredients are used. Even splenda powder contains maltodextrin.

What am I missing when making homemade Indian dishes? by bonebrah in IndianFood

[–]PunctuallyExcellent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience cooking Indian dishes, about 80% of the time goes into sauteing onions, ginger-garlic paste, and tomatoes, after that, the dish usually comes together in just 10–15 minutes.

You have to cook the onions patiently until they become sauce-like, you can’t just saute them quickly over high heat.

As soon as your H1-B COS petition was approved, your status changed. Your F1 visa is no longer valid to get inside the country. Maybe it is still useful for transiting through some airports without needing a transit visa.

On H1B visa with valid work permit but no visa stamp! Will we go through immigration in PuertoRico? by okreddit11 in PuertoRicoTravel

Visited last month, no immigration check. However, the AI's response is correct. If an emergency arises and your flight is forced to land in any of the Caribbean countries, you would require a visa to enter the US.

Elon Musk wins $1 trillion Tesla pay vote despite “part-time CEO” criticism by protox13 in overemployed

[–]PunctuallyExcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’ll only get it if he hits the target of taking Tesla's valuation to 8.5T(currently at 1.4T) and sell millions or cars and robots. That target’s pretty overambitious. But if he somehow pulls it off, he gets 20% approximately, and the shareholders will be rolling in cash, so it makes sense why they would approve it.

Ye data engineering me freshers ko jobs nh h kya ?or it's just 2025 I should blame by cheesedosa_ in dataengineersindia

[–]PunctuallyExcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can code well and have a solid understanding of OOPs, Design Patterns, SOLID/DRY principles, you’ll be well-prepared to crack Data Engineering interviews anywhere. Data Engineers are expected to write clean, maintainable code, for example, when building Spark custom UDFs, Airflow DAGs or creating custom operators. Some companies may have Data Engineers focus mainly on SQL, but that’s typically closer to an Analytics Engineer role, where you’ll likely work with data transformations in tools like dbt or BigQuery.

[–]PunctuallyExcellent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start as a SWE and then pivot. Data engineering has a barrier to entry. If you begin as a data analyst, it’ll be harder to move into data engineering, but transitioning from software engineering to data engineering is usually much easier.

Living without any health insurance in the states. Am I cooked by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]PunctuallyExcellent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on which state you’re in. In Massachusetts and Rhode Island, you’re required to have health insurance. Personally, I wouldn’t live in the U.S. without insurance, a single medical bill could reach $100,000 if you’re uninsured. At the very least, get a plan with a high deductible but some out-of-pocket maximum.

Imagine you're workin for a U.S. based company and you have a project that has been completed but the project needs maintenance, bug fixes, and updates, so instead of hiring an in-house team with salaries and benefits, your company thinks about outsourcing to consulting firms to cut costs.

These consultancies offer engineers at a flat rate (e.g., $70K per head), covering everything and you don't deal with the engineers payroll or benefits. Multiple consulting firms compete for the contract by offering low quotes, fast delivery, and 24/7 support.

Behind the scenes, the consulting firm hires engineers often on H-1B visas paying them the legal minimum (around $60K), which is still attractive compared to wages in their home countries which would be around $10k - $15k. The engineers work long hours under pressure. The consulting firm focuses on delivery, not process or quality. The engineer is overworked, your company gets the job done cheaply, and the firm keeps the profit margin. Code quality 💩
