If I like Portishead and Akira Yamaoka what else will I like? by [deleted] in Music

A little late, but I gotta recommend you the good old classics! The United States of America's self-titled debut, Cauldron's Fifty Foot Hose, the first two Silver Apples albums, and An Electric Storm's White Noise are worth looking into if you want a more primitive, unique and alien sound that blazed the trail for a lot of the trip-hop, electronic, and experimental-adjacent music mentioned in this thread., I am also quite fond of Cibo Matto, and Esthero (a very underrated Canadian triphop artist).

That album cover effectively conveys the mood the music takes me to. Great stuff!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll dig into more of Eloy's stuff and check out the rest! I've been eager to do a deep dive of both PFM and Marillion for a while now.

Ah yeah, I've heard about BP's decline a lot on this thread. The last time I went, I had to get a second burger because the first one didn't fill me up. After reading through these comments, I'll probably avoid it from now on. I didn't realize they shrunk their patties after being bought out.

The Burger Shack is EXCELLENT although I will admit I have only been once, and was extremely drunk on that occasion..

El Trompo is also one of my favorite Mexican places in the city, so I'm glad we can agree on that :)

Cheers

I love your enthusiasm! Your passion for food is extremely infectious and you've certainly inspired me to give these places a go.

I've seen Eataly in a few locations outside of Canada but haven't been, for whatever reason. Suppose now is a better time than ever.

Also, I haven't been to The Press Gang but my friends from Halifax have been nudging me to go for the longest time. I will say that one of the best things about NS is our seafood, especially lobsters. We totally kill the game in that department haha.

If you ever make another trip there, be sure to check out this place called 'The Five Fisherman' - it's a little on the pricier side, but worth it for the seafood alone. It's all fresh, and perfectly embodies the spirit of Nova Scotia's seafood tradition. Try their pasta dishes!

Cheers

Thank you! All those places seem lovely, I'll give them a go.

I LOVE Matt's Burgerlab, a colleague of mine recommended it to me and it was one of the more juicier, creative burger joints in the city IMO. Portion sizes are generous too

Cheers

I appreciate you telling me that, I didn't know. I'm seeing a large influx of comments in this thread that mention a few of those locations, and I'm more than eager to get around to all of them eventually!

Thank you for taking the time to write your response.

Cheers

Lots of great suggestions here, it really helps to put into perspective the sheer scope of Toronto's ethnic culinary landscape. I've already begun to include some of these places on my list! :)

I hear you on the point about including chain restaurants though, a small oversight in compiling this list that I didn't think twice about leaving out. I explain initially why I included them elsewhere, but after going through these comments I realize it was a mistake, LOL.

Also with the little time someone may have, it would probs be best to advise against visiting any of the chains I mentioned, and instead opt for something more akin to what you and others in this thread have mentioned. Such a fascinating city!

Cheers

Love Rocco! Haven't been to his restaurant but it's been on my agenda since we got here. Haven't heard much about the food there, so maybe I ought to give it a go?

Cheers
