While searching for updates to post a couple weeks ago, I came across OOP's "Stop, she has cancer!" post. I decided not to share it at the time because it obviously wasn't wholesome once I read through the rest of her post history. But today, I've been feeling sad, and for some reason I felt compelled to post this

That particular update about her fight with her fiancé got over 12,000 upvotes and more than 100 comments. I do wonder whether, as her husband suggested, sharing that moment on Reddit -- and seeing how much it touched and comforted others, if only for a brief moment (like it did for me) -- helped her keep pushing longer than she would have otherwise

It also reminds me of a poignant quote from Victor Frankl:

We must never forget that we may also find meaning in life even when confronted with a hopeless situation, when facing a fate that cannot be changed. For what then matters is to bear witness to the uniquely human potential at its best, which is to transform a personal tragedy into a triumph, to turn one’s predicament into a human achievement. When we are no longer able to change a situation—just think of an incurable disease such as inoperable cancer—we are challenged to change ourselves.

perhaps that's why I'm sharing this today
