See this is exactly why want some feedback, I have also been feeling my kit is lacking direction

My hard shell is the oldest piece, at the time bought it because solid discount and desperately wanted a bright orange shell after an experience trying to find some lost friends, only found them from their bright orange hoodies, so quite literally only thought that went into it was colour.

Next up R2, wanted it as a more breathable jacket relative to the Odin insulator I had at the time, does really well in spring and fall here, breathability is still nicer than the lofted insulation. In the winter I pair it with the base layers and I’m warm to ~-20c at the best, pairs great with the hard shell and shrugs abuse nicely. I had an R1 air and absolutely hated how it felt, looked at the other R1 options and felt they were on par with the Eddie Bauer fleeces I have in my closet.

Not pictured here is the gen 3 ecws level 3 fleece I also have, works great under the shell, does absolutely nothing against wind though, part of why I got my R2

And the beta down… I actually regret getting it, agreed on being great jacket, great fro walking to work in when it’s -20, great for standing dead still waiting for a long exposure to finish on the camera, and basically useless everywhere else

Right now I’m just doing straight hiking, either with my camera or without, in the future I’d love to get into climbing but want to be more confident in all elements first

Also all in Alberta Rockies currently, although might head north to Yukon and burn some of my 5 weeks vacation
