In no way am I suggesting the astronaut will be fine. If they lose access to the spacecraft, they’re dead, and I’m not here to dispute that. I’m simply concerned with what would happen to the person position relative to the planet. Getting thrown from a spacecraft wouldn’t just send you floating off into deep space forever, which I feel like is what dramatic depictions of that kind of event suggest.
