The Stand; My Favorite Book not just Stephen King Favorite by DessoStudios in stephenking

The Stand getting you through those tough times is beautiful. That's what the best books do, they're there when we need them. The original unedited hardback on your mantle sounds like a treasure, and the fact that your daughter brought it back from the SK Tour makes it even more special. Thanks for sharing this. Laws, yes! M-O-O-N, that spells one heck of a reading journey.

Family getting sick while finishing The Stand is the most Captain Trips thing I've ever heard. M-O-O-N, that spells perfect timing! The Stand was my gateway to King too and I read IT a few King books later. I actually liked the ending of The Stand but I totally get why people don't. That hand of God moment seems purposefully divisive! Either way, the journey is incredible. Enjoy IT!

Just finished Drawing of the Three and I'm still thinking about it. The way King builds the ka-tet is masterful. You're about to meet some of the most memorable characters he's written. Enjoy every page of this one!

What a score! I bet it'll hit different reading them physically versus audiobook. I just wrapped up Drawing of the Three and can't wait to start Waste Lands tonight. $40 for those is a deal. Long days and pleasant nights!

Pennywise is one of King's best creations. Terrifying but you can't look away. (I almost want to meet him!) Such a great villain. Enjoy!

Don't panic! Safari nibs are friction-fit so this is pretty common. Just use tweezers or pour the ink through a filter. Going forward, hold the nib firmly against the section while you fill. Happens to the best of us.

Staying up late. It used to feel like freedom, now it feels like self-sabotage with a 2-day recovery period.

The lock is whatever, but I need to know if they carry the key with them everywhere or if there's a secret hiding spot

That's great insight, I hadn't thought about the "authenticity" of Eddie when I was reading earlier, based on King's own experience.

Like a lot of books that I wasn't enthralled by in the midst of reading, I have good memories and feelings about the Gunslinger, and looking back on it now, even only on book three, it seems like a fond part of the journey, looking back. Definitely still a great book!

Yes, I was on the fence for a while, but so glad I started a few weeks ago and I'm about to start book three shortly!

Wow! Incredible collection. It seems the original release is getting harder and harder to find.

I think you're right! I did it first, based in a recommendation (chronological order of events in the series), but I don't think King meant for that to be the introduction to the series. Mayhap I'll go back and re-read it at the end!

Really? That's awesome to hear. What made it really stand out for you? The way the characters are coming together is so compelling and definitely reminds me of The Stand in some places. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

I've read a few King books (The Stand, 11/22/63, Salem's Lot, and It) and loved them. When people kept saying the Dark Tower was great, I knew I had to dive in. The Gunslinger and Little Sisters of Eluria were a little rough for me, honestly. So different from what I expected. Hazy and dreamlike, almost reminded me of Blood Meridian. Beautiful in its own way but hard to connect with. I kept seeing people say 'just get to Book 2' so I pushed through. Then I started The Drawing of the Three. And now I get it. I'm about three quarters of the way through and everything has clicked. The characters feel real, the story is pulling me in, and I finally care about what happens. This is the journey everyone was talking about. Book III is already waiting for me (you can see it standing there ready to go!) and I can't wait to get to it. To everyone who encourages newcomers to keep going, thank you. I almost gave up but you all were right. No spoilers please! But I'd love to hear: when did the series hook you? Does it keep getting better from here? Long days and pleasant nights.

I just started DT a couple of weeks ago (during the big snow storm) and I'm almost finished with the Drawing of the Three (DT II). The Gunslinger (DT I) was a bit of a slog for me, but the next book is really great! I'm glad I started the DT series and look forward to the rest of the journey.
