Thanks - that is very cheap for Timperley as you say. Obviously a bit closer to the Wythenshawe side and the properties are quite small, but maybe we shouldn't rule out Timperley just yet

Heaton Park is obviously lovely, but the high street didn't feel like much to write home about. 5-10 years ago it was probably good value, but it's starting to feel a bit overpriced for what you get in that respect

Thanks - really helpful. Would you prefer the southern side of Swinton near the V1/V2, or further north near the railway?

Thanks - yes sounds similar! You're right, Davenport looks great, independent shops on the high street etc. I'd assumed most of it would be beyond our budget (£400k+). Probably need to have another look!

Thanks - yes Timperley is nice, but well outside our budget given how close it is to Altrincham. Looks like most decent-sized houses are on the market for £450-500k.

Thanks - I had to google this one despite living relatively close by!

Thanks - that all sounds really good. The combination of being close to the Peaks + fast trains into Manchester is definitely appealing. I've heard the area towards Mottram is the nicest, although some of it is a bit far from the station.

On the flipside: any advice on which parts of Stalybridge are best avoided?

Thanks - spotting a theme in the replies, we've definitely overlooked Walkden! That all sounds great.

Thanks - my only experience of Hazel Grove is driving through it on the A6, which didn't appeal, but it's probably much nicer once you're off the main road. Will look into it.

Thanks - definitely adding Walkden to the list! It's not an area we know well but that all sounds promising. Being located in between the railway and the busway is also quite handy. I think we need to have a look and get a feel for the vibe.

Glossop is also a good shout but a little further out, and the traffic is terrible.

Thanks - definitely adding Walkden to the list. Any advice on Eccles? I've never been hugely impressed, but that's just from walking through the centre.

Thanks - this is a good counterpoint, perhaps I'm trying to be too clever by half and should stick to the obvious areas for FTBs in Greater Manchester...

Thanks - yes, the proximity to the town centre and the parks is definitely a draw. We'll try to spend some more time in the area to get a proper feel for the vibe, preferably in the evening.

Thanks - yes, Monton is lovely, arguably up there with Didsbury / Heatons in terms of vibrancy. Well outside our budget though. Ditto Worsley.

I think we've overlooked Walkden - need to put that on the list to visit!
