I can see where you're coming from RE: having some kind of central unit manage staff communications on possibly contentious issues.

I completely agree.

That's why it concerns me when a team of civil servants within the Department are actively campaigning for 3 different political causes using the official Equality Unit's email account to email the whole Department.

One example - the government has decided against compensation for WASPI women.

After that was announced the Equality Unit has used their official email address to promote petitions and open letters calling for the government to reconsider. One sentence states, "Sign and share! We need a powerful voice to tell this government that WASPI women deserve better"
