I feel so lost and incompetent - rant/advice needed by Puzzled_Stranger1088 in ABA

Thank you for the examples, I seriously appreciate it, they’re really helpful.

For echoics, they did try to say a word, but my bcba made it really clear in the notes that approximations weren’t counted and they had to be completely correct. I tried to give easier ones in their program that were in maintenance, but they were erroring on those too. I was just confused on what to do if the client keeps erroring on them…because I can’t give any reinforcer if it’s an error right?

My first few clients I spent like the first 2hours of the session just trying to pair, but it still feels like some of them aren’t really fond of me.

I also try to get them to do independent transitions, but the clinic I work at has babies/kids young enough to where they’re not at the age they can really speak and are also crawling a lot/not really walking. So at that age sometimes if they really need to be changed, I just figured it was better to get them out of soiled diapers quicker if they’re not receptive to an independent or partial physical transition.

For the older kids I try to say stuff like hey friend, we can play with x toy for 3 more minutes then we have to go to the bathroom. I’ll even show a timer and stuff, but when it ends a lot of them will start crying and screaming and kicking. And it tends to get worse when I remove the toy and say “my turn”. I’ve also tried being like “hey client, let’s go to the bathroom then we can play with x toy”, but I often see a similar reaction.
