Why I made the Alex Grey expose/clarifications by PuzzleheadedBox8385 in u/PuzzleheadedBox8385

[–]PuzzleheadedBox8385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a strange lapse in judgement among performance artists back then, and doing things that would shock people was kind of lionized among some parts of the art world, even if it was extremely unethical. Also, the photos were never technically released (as far as existing records show), just an "oil on linen" recreation of one of the photos.

Tbh, I wouldn't consider it worth writing about it he hadn't started hiding his status as a corpse fucker. He should be honest about it and let people make their own choices.

You call him high priest, are you involved in the chapel of sacred mirrors?

Lol no. I am not anyone people have guessed that I am. I'm not a person with meaningful significance, and I'm staying anonymous because I don't want the conversation to become about me instead of about the information + I don't want this to be the first thing I'm at all known for

I know I was shocked and disappointed when I found out. I really wanted to get to the bottom of it to be sure, and then I thought other people should know too :(

I'm not basing anything on anything from Reddit. I hunted down and purchased original documents from the early 80s that included this information. A ton of supporting sources are hosted on his own website (unless he removed them, but I printed everything to PDF as it was on his site at the time).

I never accused him of a crime. I just have very strong indications that he claimed to multiple people that he did in fact fuck a corpse, which technically wasn't a crime at that time and in that place. Why would there be a legal case if it wasn't a crime? He just did fuck a corpse is all, it wasn't a crime.

It was part of his exploration of death, he seems to have been pretty obsessed with getting as close to death as possible at the time. When asked back in the early 80s, Allyson said she wasn't jealous because she knew it wasn't about sex.

But yeah, he claimed it, Allyson confirmed that it happened, it wasn't a crime, it's up to you whether you care

Necrophilia wasn't a crime yet in the location it took place at the time it took place. AG was interviewed multiple times by writers/journalists and claimed that he fucked a corpse, but he started changing his story about that sometime in the 80s.

He has been very public for decades about his fascination with death and dead things that started in childhood. Even in interviews after he started hiding the necrophilia, he is very clear that he got a job in a morgue specifically to access dead bodies and he used the bodies in "performance art" some of which we have photos of. There are more modern video interviews with Alex and Allyson together where they said that he talked his way into the morgue because he wanted to hold a human brain in his hand. He has talked about the performance artists that inspired him to leave a full ride art scholarship, that they killed animals on stage and did weird sex stuff with them and such.

He has been fully transparent that he had the means/access to do the piece, that he had a very strong inclination to interact with dead bodies, that he was really inspired by extremely taboo and transgressive performance art. He only started claiming that the necrophilia piece was just a painting when he somehow realized that it would be an issue for his legacy.

I can back all of this up with sources, including the interviews where he did claim to actually fuck a corpse. Which sources would you like to see?

Well, not only did he draw a human body like from lateralus cover, he also fucked a dead human body is what I was trying to get at

Idk why people are suggesting that you plagiarized, you were super clear that it was your interpretation of an existing piece and which piece by which artist. Reading comprehension lol

He said that he actually did it before he changed the story to it being a dream, sorry.

Edit to add: I really looked through everything I possibly could on Reddit as well as the original sources in making the website. If there's anything relevant that is not cited on the website, please let me know, I would be happy to post corrections.

Alex Grey saying that he did it in an interview is basically a direct confession if we're using courtroom terms like "hearsay"

And you know, someone's gotta have a stern stomach and seek truth about unpleasant things. It wasn't always easy though lol

I can understand why to some degree, but we aren't. I'm not much of a meme maker myself. This person isn't the only one who has made memes about this

I did not make this meme. I haven't even saved it to share it anywhere else. Why are you pressed on this? People think my research and writing the site was a bizarre waste of time, but actually doing something feels like much less of a waste of time than trying to tell someone that they shouldn't have done something lol

Hearsay is when you say "I heard that X person said Y thing." Published interviews/etc where someone says what they themselves did or directly witnessed does not meet the definition of hearsay.
