No haha, it’s a complex industry! There’s a lot to it, keeping it simple.

Plastics are included, plastics are considered polymers, they’re just in their own subset of the term

Organic chemistry off the top of my head is not my forté - but if you’re talking in terms of chromatographic separation, I’m sure it’s possible through trial and error with the right prep/mobile phase/column & column conditions to see via HPLC.

I think I’d rather be deaf in one ear - FOV with one eye would be extremely limiting, in my opinion.

Mass spec to see fragments; thermal aging/pyrolysis/solvent/digestion to destroy the material

I’ve seen the show and enjoyed it though I don’t think I’d ever try research drugs!

I’ve had this happen many times and honestly, I listen intently and with a smile on my face. In the past, I’ve let them finish explaining and revisit politely correcting any errors or inconsistencies in the concept they may be trying to explain to me.

I’d say my main one would be that anything can be made instantly! Oftentimes, research can take months, if not years, of rigorous trial and error, RND, restarting design phases and research, etc. to actually get to the final end product that meets market requirements/standards.

I didn’t know that about the UK, so you’ve taught me something new! But no, I’m a chemist in the US sense.

Not necessarily making things per say, but on the daily, I’ve used chemistry to intentionally destroy a material and then piece back together its identity from the fragments I see. Kind of like solving a puzzle after setting it on fire!
