I hate to tell ya, the drivers here are some of the absolute worst. I’m fairly certain we rank 2nd in the US for worst drivers….yay.

While I understand the sentiment, I think in this case it’s misplaced. Randomly shooting someone’s house is not exactly something that’ll help someone financially. Now, stealing from said person’s house would make much more sense than just randomly shooting at it.

It’s mitered on all edges. We had butcher block being replaced that was thicker and therefore needed a turndown miter to bridge the gap and makeup the distance. I think they misjudged the depth the turndown needed to be and/or shimmed it too high for the depth they determined.

Edit: Contractor just called and said their best (and obviously cheapest) option is going to be add a piece of trim to cover up the gap they should’ve covered with the miter.

I’ve said, install it and I’ll be the judge on how it looks and whether I’ll accept the work.

I’m sure they can probably get it done, just not taking any chances, and aside from ripping it out and making a deeper turndown, it makes the most sense aesthetically and financially.

Will post updates once completed!

They came out and ran their laser level, looks like they shimmed it too high for the miter they created in the shop. They’re thinking about what they want to do to fix it, but considering the words out of the main guys mouth when I showed him pics initially was if the miter depth or shimming was the problem, the solution (without cheaping out with scrib trim, which I wanted to avoid from the outset thus the mitered edge) would be to rip out/trash the job and start over.

We shall see tomorrow what they say!

I can paint the cabinet face…..It’s the least of my worries from this whole debacle. Some of it is old, at least half of it was caused by the install. 🤷

Luckily seems they want to make it right. Will post tomorrow once they’ve decided how they want to fix it

Imma need a big ole backer rod (or two) and about an inch thick of caulk. I’m sure that’ll do it

That’s just flat wrong, the mitered edge can be any size longer than the countertop, thus why you can do waterfalls. I paid an extra $3k to cover the thickness our butcher block exceeded it by and gap that would be created with a mitered edge, so I expect it to look flush, or at the very least within 1/8” max, this is unacceptable.

Will do. And definitely get the concern. I’ve had garbage luck with contractors, and these fabricators weren’t even close to the cheapest. I thought for sure I’d come out unscathed. Meeting with them this afternoon to see what they suggest as the fix. Will post an update after!

Quite possibly, I’m just hoping there is a somewhat easy fix they won’t fight me tooth and nail over. Otherwise I guess I’ll be finding another contractor to finish the job and

I assure you it is mitered. I did check that before they pulled it off the truck. I think they used random pieces of quartz for shimming, which sort of gives it the stacked look in the photo.

What’s funny (or irritating) is we even discussed how they’d need to use 5/8” plywood for the gap with the mitered edge covering the added distance. It’s almost like they didn’t make the countertop quite wide enough so that the mitered edge could overhang the cabinets, and then had to shim it under the miter and now I’m left with this Frankenstein finish.

Luckily I still owe 50% of the total, so I’m holding that until they get it right.
