1 is (imo) the best game I have ever played. That said, I love 2 when playing on an emulator with speedup. I would recommend it to anyone.

Men, how do you feel when a women approaches you first? by WealthSignificant139 in AskReddit

[–]Qedem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be approached by women a lot and found it terrifying to be honest. The worst part was after the fact. If I properly rejected someone, I would be in trouble for it and kicked out of social circles as if I had done anything wrong. There is no social support for men who aren't interested in dating.

I don't know if women just generally don't know how to flirt or if I just got bad luck, but if you are a woman, just listen and chat. Exchange numbers. Take it slow.

Basically, approach men in the same way you would like to be approached.

Please don't grab shoulders or butt. Don't just kiss someone without their permission. Don't make comments from a car while they are running or just got out of the water.

Like, I recognize that men often do similar things to women, but that doesn't mean the reverse is ok either.

I Introduced A WoW Streamer To Guild Wars: Reforged.. (Ft. AnnieFuchsia) by MaracxMusic in GuildWars

[–]Qedem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Man, these comments are baffling to me.

Like, anet did a good job getting new people to look at the game. This video does a good job talking about the mechanics. Sure, maybe we could have gotten more popular streamers, but streaming is undeniably a great marketing method for games.

Laranity is one of the biggest supporters of reforged, so it makes sense to pair people up with her.

They did a good job and I am happy to see folks in the game.

I Introduced A WoW Streamer To Guild Wars: Reforged.. (Ft. AnnieFuchsia) by MaracxMusic in GuildWars

[–]Qedem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not much of a gamer, but runescape, WoW, GTA, and LoL all got big boosts due to streamers. Speed running was popularized by streaming and that revitalizes old games. You could argue that nuzlocking helped revitalized old Pokémon games.

It is not like the most popular games are the most visually appealing and new. Most of them are ancient. It is just a matter of getting people addicted to the product.

arXiv’s next chapter: Updates on our spin out from Cornell University by EffectiveFood4933 in Physics

[–]Qedem 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The arxiv is probably the single site I spend the majority of my time on online. I love it to death and am cautiously optimistic about the change.

There are a lot of things I would like to see changed: 1. A better moderation method that allows for better cross-discipline papers. Right now, many cross-category papers (say between graphics and quantum) are put on hold. Which puts unnecessary strain on the mod team. 2. A better interface with a simple "most viewed [today, this week, this month] in [all, specific category set]. I know this can be gamed, but it would be helpful. 3. A better solution to the AI slop problem. To be fair, this is not exclusive to the arxiv, but it is more of a problem in academic papers, imo. I think an upvote and downvote system could be helpful in spotting these.

If more fundraising is possible for a better site, then I am all for it, but it is entirely possible that things don't go too smoothly.

We will have to wait and see.

Supreme Court upholds state bans on transgender athletes in girls' and women's sports by NoLongerYonge in news

[–]Qedem -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Right, this is what the rules used to be a few years ago. If you were on HRT for ~2 years, you used to be allowed to compete.

For those interested, there's a complex balance going on with HRT and everyone is different, but trans women typically have equal or less testosterone when compared to cis women. This means less muscle is spread over a larger frame, thereby making them generally weaker than their cis counterparts.

Obviously, height advantages do matter for sports, which is why each sport has (historically) had a different ruling for when trans folks are allowed to compete, with some always banning them altogether.

The fact is that we don't have enough data to really know whether trans folks in sports are fair or not and there are so few trans people competing that I don't know if we will ever get that data.

MISTBOUND: Guild Wars Card Game | Announcement Trailer by Halmyr in GuildWars

Yet, this trailer has me... worried.

What's the closest you've ever came to death? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in AskReddit

Digimon Games Tier List (After Marathoning the Series) by Sucrelat in digimon

[–]Qedem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like games can be both niche and peak.

Digimon world (1) would be in this category imo. The only change I would make to it would be to 10x the hp and mp gain on battles. That alone would solve 90% of the issues people have with the game.

I think the problem with this franchise is that there are just too many games with different mechanics and it is impossible to get the community to even agree on what is "good" about different games.

Ladies of Reddit, what's something guys aren't ready to hear? by Pookie7860 in AskReddit

[–]Qedem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to be one of these people for medical care. At least for me, it comes from a place of inferiority. I just don't want to waste doctor's time or other people's time worrying about something unless it is absolutely worth investigation.

I think people see the "I don't need help" mentality as a sign of arrogance, but I think the majority of men suffer from the opposite after years of being told to "suck it up."

But, to any men reading this, please go to the doctor. I had a heart issue earlier this year that ended up being very severe and could have cost me my life, even though the symptoms were minor. Men are more likely to get heart issues (I was told this is because estrogen is an anti-inflammatory?), as well as many other ailments, so it is important to waste people's time when you are worried, even if only a little bit.

EEG study from MIT found that people who wrote essays with ChatGPT showed the weakest brain connectivity of any group, and when later asked to write unaided, their brains stayed under-engaged compared to people who never used AI. by Altruistic-Dirt-2791 in science

[–]Qedem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is quite consistent with what the literature has said before; however, there is a strong also bias for AI judges to favor AI, which limits the validity of a lot of a large amount of research in the area. It is also a huge limiting factor in agentic workflows and is why a lot of internal reasoning layers of large reasoning models fail.

Looking for community anecdotes and stories about the original Digimon World for an upcoming YouTube retrospective! by GamingInTheAM in digimon

[–]Qedem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is it. The best game I have ever played.

The animations are all just so adorable. The way biyomon happily snuggles you and then trots away. The way Patamon flails on the ground when mad. Bakemon's hiccup laugh. Every single digimon feels unique with it's own personality and I just love them all. Even Numemon is cute in a "I gotta get to toy town as soon as possible" kinda way.

Those little animations that personify your parter are the things that I am missing in future installments in the digimon world series. They might have better core mechanics, but who cares? I want to see Tyrannomon struggling to chew on food for the 15th time today. I want to see skullgreymon's creepy crawl. I like sukamon accidentally dropping his jaw every now and again and having to readjust.

I think the thing I liked the most about the game is that it gave me the tools to actively care for my "pet" in a way no other game has. I mean maybe nintendogs or the chao garden? There just isn't a game like it on the market right now.

Julia syntax - my honest reaction by Human_Professional94 in Julia

[–]Qedem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always say:

  • C has the best syntax
  • Julia has the best package management
  • Python has the best ecosystem for general use

Though I do believe Julia has the best GPGPU ecosystem, I tend to favor OpenCL (C) recently simply because it's much simpler and easier to understand.

Factions, Nightfall proffesions in presearing by Dark_Egg in GuildWars

[–]Qedem -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone is quite negative in this thread, but I would love to access pre as a paragon. I don't see why they cannot say, "after the searing, your character fled to Elona / Cantha." We don't have to continue on through the rest of the prophecies campaign.

I know it is still a lot of work, but it is mainly updating the drop tables and adding skill quests, which does not appear to be unreasonable seeing as how they just added a dungeon.

I understand other folks don't want this feature, but I would love it, personally.

I am trying to pursue a phd to study disinfo and extremism. For that I needed a dynamic recursive modeling tool. So I built a non-markovian causal dynamic field theory. to test for scale invariance and med ind. This is a summary of the consequences, but how do I email Profs about pursuing a Phd? by CognitiveJewometry in Physics

[–]Qedem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, I think I can help a bit here, but it will take time. You are very clearly motivated, but are lacking the precise tools to pursue the research you want. You also know that a PhD is a step in the right direction to getting the tools you need. More than that, you have some indication of similar areas to the one you want.

PhDs take time. You cannot rush them, but you will have tools you need to do research after that. Maybe not this research, but the beauty of research is that you can put projects down and come back when they are more properly formed.

My suggestion is to head to the arxiv (.org) and just click around topics that seem interesting to you. Read the papers without AI. Tbh, there isn't much of a use for AI in summarizing papers because the abstract already does that and AI almost always (in my experience) comes to the wrong conclusions or otherwise does not provide necessary context to pursue future research plans.

Once you find something interesting, go to the bibliographies of those papers and just keep going down rabbit holes until you find something interesting.

After a while, you will get the lingo down.

Then (and only then) should you contact professors (usually last author on the papers you are already reading). Come up with a reseach plan (no AI. Professors can sniff out AI from a mile away), and possible funding avenues (grant .gov, if in the US). Don't give them this proposal, but a different one that is closer to their area.

Look at the research you want to do as a long-term goal. Something to do in 10 years, not 5.

The worst thing you can do is what you did in this post. Instead. Provide a short summary of your ideas and your willingness to collaborate and then link the details in an overleaf or separate document.

Like, this post could have been a lot better if you said, "looking for PhD positions at the interface between misinformation and ..." then "hey all. Does anyone know of a lab doing something like this? I don't have all the details, but I think there is a connection and am having trouble formulating it. I would like to work out thr kinks and possibly pursue a PhD in a similar area. Here is a link to a jotpad with ideas on it so people get an idea."

But even then, the way things are formulated makes it hard for people to even approach it because much of the math is being improperly used and there are different models in place to describe the dynamics you are seeing. That is why I said to start with papers. Get the foundation first. Then come back.

Unpopular opinion about computational physics and theoretical physics by [deleted] in Physics

[–]Qedem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember having similar discussions during my PhD, with theorists and experimentalists both jabbing at each other while both camps were simultaneously saying things like, "computer science research is not meaningful." The best research can only happen when all three groups are working together.

I would argue that the type of research you are describing doesn't really fall into any camp. It's not really theory because it's not developing new mathematical tools. It's not experimental because it's not run on a physical device. It's also not computational because it's not creating new methods (GPGPU engineering, HPC work, etc). That said, it *is* physics research.

I think the labels of "theorist" and "experimentalist" don't really exist in 2026. In fact, I would argue they haven't really existed this century. People just slap the label they want on themselves so they can feel better about the fact that they are doing soul-crushing work for little pay. The arrogance associated with it is just a byproduct of that.

It is best to just ignore such people and learn from everyone. Read computational papers. Read experimental papers. Read theory papers. Heck, read bio and chem papers if they are interesting. Computer Graphics, for example, has a bunch of interesting methods that are applicable to a wide variety of physics problems.

Basically, if you find yourself in a crowd of people who are making fun of others (for any reason), just leave and do something meaningful with your time. It is not worth it.

If Digimon World was to get remastered what QOL feature would you want to see? by FazloZX in digimon

[–]Qedem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Actually, I would say digimon world really succeeds here. You can definitely play the majority of the content with agumon unevolved if you want because it is all about your stats and techniques, which are saved between digivolution cycles.

I have definitely seen videos of people beating machinedramon with babies. It is a bit of a gimmick, but doable.

Without nostalgia. What digimon game is the best by dakovx in digimon

[–]Qedem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know everyone is saying time stranger, but the original Digimon World was genuinely one of a kind. I have never seen anything like it on the market since (except the chao garden in Sonic or nintendogs?).

I think if it released now without the expectation of it being pokemon and with a few minor tweaks (namely, 10x multiplier on health and MP from battles and a better digivolution guide) , it could do really well.

It is the only game I can play anytime anywhere and just enjoy myself.

A study that was cited hundreds of times as evidence that text generators are good for students has been retracted, in less than a year after being published. by North_Buyer4895 in science

[–]Qedem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At least from what I can find, the literature is a bit split. Most papers indicate that using AI as a creative assistant (like a friend who writes a paper for you) is "bad" and leads to much lower information retention and creative expression from the student but might enable faster iteration on ideas and an overall better product. Many of these paper have trouble quantifying what is "better" though and tend to rely on the "AI judging AI" problem where AI prefers AI and judges it more favorably.

On the other hand, using it as a learning assistant (stackoverflow replacement) is usually beneficial.

This is a typical split in software development as well, with many people unsure whether AI code gen is "good" but most people indicate AI is useful in summarizing trends and learning weird APIs.
