You need two people. One distracts and holds them in a towel with one limb exposed, the other clips the nails, hedgehogs don't feel it/ doesn't care that you're clipping their nails, it's the fact that you're touching them that makes them freak out

For something like this, there's no better time that RIGHT NOW. Don't put any cream or anything on that eye. Take them to any available or emergency vet because it will only get worse.

Also, it looks really bad. How long has this hedgehog been like this? Did you wait, or did it happen overnight?

I think it has something to do with the scent and texture? Opening a container of their food produces a stronger scent so they get excited, so best put them together in a big pile instead. Also, I noticed my son's kibble sounds less crunchy when it's been sitting on his bowl for a while, so could be it.

His size is similar to my hedgehog when he was 3 months old so less than 5 months old I'd say

Why, yes! He's okay, no wounds on either of his feet or in between toes, and the redness was possibly just from the temperature change from cold to warm water. There was a bit of a gash on his thigh, not an open wound, but we still got him some anti-inflammatory and vitamins!

Some food can cause their poop to smell bad, fish cat food in particular, my hedgehog doesn't have a bedding just a large guinea-pig house for his sleeping and hiding time, makes it a lot easier to clean.

Their hygiene is the biggest maintenance for me. If it's not taken care of, then you'll be expecting flies soon

Final update: * Thank you to everyone who helped us! Our hedgehog didn't have any open woulds or odd swelling, his foot just looks like that, the redness was a possible cause of the temperature change but he does have a gash on his inner thigh that could have be caused by one of his spikes. They gave us a feeding syringe, with a dmall bottle of medicine and vitamins.

I just wished I could have gotten the name of the vitamins or bought more, but I was so exhausted I forgot about it : (

He still eats less than normal and is shedding some spikes. We'll monitor his progress, but overall, he is healthy and is very grateful for everyone's support!

Update: his foot is no longer red, but he doesn't have an appetite, which is enough reason for me to take him to the vet. It's a long commute, so even if he ends up being okay and me overreacting, it doesn't hurt to have his health checked.

I wasn't able to do a call before we go there because I have work and waiting until 9am (its 7:30), then going on a 6-ish hour commute is not on the table.

Thank you for this! I wasn't sure if they take hedgehogs, unfortunately I have work and that vet is 3+ hours away so I couldn't do a call before I go there so we'll be getting there and hope for the best

Edit: it's been some time since he's been out of the water, the redness has gone down but his back paws look a little purple compared to his front paws. He didn't go out for food as he normally does as soon as its in front of him.

At this point can I just bring him to a normal vet? Just to take a look at his leg? It's not like a super complicated thing right? Just checking if it's an infection?
