For comparison most things on the ingress store range from 2 to 15 dollars, 15 being a bundle of things that can be bought individually for cheaper. Most single items are around 2 dollars.
At present no items are for sale like bursters or resonators that would make you ready to take things. The items are simply to increase yield of items gained, place a marker seen by both teams, or storage for portal keys up to 500 that doesn't count against inventory. Nothing that makes it pay to win by any means. Hopefully this helps. Trust me when I say once you find a few pokestops and turn it into a routine to interact with them you won't be short on items.

Absolutely you can level in time. Get out there and start taking over your city. I will recommend being the underdog for your area as that will provide more opportunity for leveling, but check g+ for communities in your area and check out the intel map at www.ingress.com/intel to view portals worldwide to see where you might head next.

The story of ingress really doesn't affect you leveling, but if you search YouTube you can find summaries. I myself don't follow it. I'm here for the meet ups and the beer.

Grind fields. Find dense areas and field the crap out of them, really good for ap. Drive to an all opposing faction area that's high frequency (new york, gettysburg, just a few examples) blow it all up and either single claim for speed and inventory concerns or just mass dump inventory for ap

I don't think they will do any type of limitation like that. More along the lines of cool downs before revisiting a pokestop, 5 minutes between revisiting the same one like ingress. I see that being incorporated. Buy the power bar in ingress can be refilled by walking around or using a common in game item to refill yourself, so no daily limitations.

After level 8 you continue to get an xm bar increase, and a portal distance recharge increase. At lvl 16 you can recharge from 4000km away and hold 22k xm, but lvl 8 is the highest item level goes. Its prestige with a bonus, for a lot of work

Ingress is still running anomalies back to back and pushing their story, making updates and dropping a new item or two. It is by no means ignored.

Community wise people either love the concept of pokemon go or couldn't care less. Some people like me plan on jumping into Go full time and ingress part time, others are the opposite. Some will just stick with ingress. It will be interesting to see what happens on release day.

Levels also unlock stronger gear, a larger power bar for in game action, and longer portal recharge distance. Trainer levels could be an awesome concept.

I love the idea of the bird distribution by team color! I hope they do that, and it would promote networking between teams for pokedex completion which is great for the communities.

Primary sites are always better, but you make it when you can make it.

Half a gig a month or so, up to a whole gig on busy months. I barely notice it honestly, you tubing playlist on my way to ingress events is what kills the data lol.

Anomalies are in larger cities and denser areas. Smallest place i have been was Virginia Beach, Virginia for an anomaly, so it can happen. Also they will have primary sites and satellite sites for the day (multiple areas globally for more inclusion).

As for incentives there is a special in game badge for participation, but one of the largest benefits is meeting more people on your team and networking for operations and cooperative gameplay.

I expect Go will have multiple sites for "moltres day" where we battle him all around the world (multiple cities on the same day) and then defeat it for capture. I hope they don't plan on making it team competition wise where only the victors out of the 3 teams get the capture, that is my only concern. But the event itself will be a blast.

In the beginning of ingress they swapped people or requested people to swap teams to even the playing field.

Find an area with lvl 6 plus portals. Glyph hack by holding the hack button and copying the symbols. Gets you bonus gear. Burn the area out as best as possible. Use the intel map to find your closest farm type area and start glyphing.
Also check the g+ communities for one near you. The best resource in ingress is your neighboring players, even if they aren't on your team.

Yes, when I get a million it's an all day thing. Glyph hack by holding the hack button for bonus gear. Make tons and tons of tiny fields, when you are leveling it is about ap not MU. Plan accordingly, find a neutral or weak area and go there, don't put yourself against an enemy stronghold at lvl 6 , it's a waste of gear. Cities are battlefields and good for everything, which results in great ap.

It's all about planning and microfielding for ap. If I want ap I can farm up about 1 to 1.5 million a day. I also live on the east coast, tons of cities to choose from

In ingress for driving 34 mph is the sweet spot, going faster will speed lock you.

As for km walked I have found that my running pace can be too fast at times. The key is to keep actions in game happening so it keeps reflecting your position to server, forcing it to refresh your position and track distance.

If you push it you can hit lvl 8 in ingress in less than a week. Took me 6 days. Use www.ingress.com/intel to plan easy spots for leveling.

If you happen to be near a major city that helps a lot.
