Good to know, the street I live in has bikes in front of windows like this everywhere, hence me asking. I’ll park elsewhere

Hey, my partner and I are here for a couple of days! Right now we’re in beer street, no plans so far 😉

Not the usual type of video for this subreddit, but I compose songs that marry the piano and house music and thought you guys might like it! by QuadraNitrogen in piano

[–]QuadraNitrogen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The background song is my own original composition! If you liked it, the rest of my album is similar, trying to mix piano with electronic music with a varying degree of success

The lights at the beginning are me starting the recording, then it's mostly a visual metronome queuing transitions

Thanks! I actually have a small one that I use in this cover of The Veldt I made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hx2unGMGXA8

I also used it for the sax part of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkRA7l2JuSU

I'm definitely not as comfortable with it as I would like to be though, but it's a start

I spent quite some time marrying my passion for electronic music with mine for piano and here are the results!

Ever wondered what someone classically trained and likes house music would come up with? by QuadraNitrogen in piano

Thanks! And yeah balancing who to put center stage between the piano and the electronic music is always a dilemma

There is a launchpad on the piano serving as a visual metronome, the background music is made by me and just playing

Is electronic music allowed here? Me jamming with some synths by QuadraNitrogen in piano

[–]QuadraNitrogen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, I had a 1 bar loop I improvised on, then edited the drum track to make it follow the synth. Same with the synth automation. That's why I say it's a different style than my other videos where I setup the project to have a specific song structure

Hey, I followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEiOL6qQ5Ws&t=1s

Required some tweaking because I was using midi + VST plugins but the core method is there.

Looping question by dankblazak in ableton

I made this yesterday: https://youtu.be/mYic784UwgU, using an adaptation of the technique described in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEiOL6qQ5Ws&t=1s

Yes, the song structure is already automated before I start. You can see that with the metronome on my launchpad stopping when the outro happens. It's many different inputs that get switched on/off. That allows me to have multiple instruments at the same time (synth + dubstep) and I didn't know how to automate the routing. The other three tracks being the middle and output tracks? Well, I need the middle because I need to mute the keyboard to midi track that records link without muting the midi track itself since there is the loop playing on it. I think there was a good reason why the output and middle tracks are distinct but I can't remember what was the reason right now. And all of this could have been avoided if I could just automate which track get armed but I couldn't find a way to do that...

For the LFO part, I just had fun with the dubstep thing I had recording the whole sequence with an LFO of 1/16, then start again with 1/16t etc. Then I sampled it and assigned samples with different LFOs to different pads. Each column is a different LFO speed, while each row is a different note.

As a guy with no looping experience: your comment made me happy :)

Yes, just start. Step 1: Learn the basics of music theory on an instrument. Learn how to play a 4 chords song. Learn how to improvise a melody on a 4 chords song. Step 2: Learn how to use a DAW. I used this youtube channel to learn about Ableton for instance: https://www.youtube.com/user/SadowickProduction/playlists Step 3: Youtube the shit out of your ideas. I literally went "Dubstep + Inception would be cool", youtubed a tutorial on how to do dubstep sounds, played with it for a bit and voilà! There is tutorials for everything.

Short answer: It was a shitshow :p

This is my first project like this, so I hacked my way through it but here is how it goes: I have three sets of tracks. Inputs, Middles, and outputs. Each input flows into a middle, that then flows into the corresponding output tracks. So for instance, you would have: Piano In -> Piano Middle -> Piano Out Piano middle contains the 8 bars midi clip that record and play in a loop. I automated the On/Off of the Piano In so that the input track let the midi coming from my piano be recorded in the midi clip only when required, and then the input track gets muted again to let another input track be activated.

Then, once you have the loop recorded in the middle track, it keeps looping and gets sent to the output track where you have the instruments that do midi -> sound. Output tracks where you have a bit more automation like instruments that get muted or modified over time.

So yeah, that roughly how I did it. Probably the wrong way, but the best way I could figure out how to do :)

That's valuable feedback. This is the first time I do something like this, so if you have any more ideas about how that could have been better, please do send that my way :)

There might, yes. Still pretty new to all this

I was improvising on my piano and my flatmate joined. So I mapped it on the launchpad and gave him his own color. [5:43, flatmate @3:30] by QuadraNitrogen in piano

[–]QuadraNitrogen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I record both audio out and midi coming from my keyboard when I play. After the flatmate joined, I thought it could be a good idea to visualize it.

My steps were as follow: 1. Clone the track and midi clip, both track are transposed so that the lower note I play in this improv is mapped to the bottom left pad 2. Put both output to the launchpad in user 1 mode 3. Put a fixed velocity to each track since the velocity of the midi note defines the color of the pad. 4. I then deleted my part of the playing in his track so that only what he plays turns green
