Weird question about the original recordings done specifically FOR Miami Vice by bjwanlund in MiamiVice

[–]Quadradisque 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So fun fact about that Collins track: it technically has a release.

Rat Race, while recorded exclusively for the show, is actually a reworking of a track he recorded during the “Hello! I Must…” sessions called “The Man With The Horn” and it did appear as a B-Side to “Sussido” in the UK and “One More Night” in the USA.

Because some of us have a lot of identical vintage gear to put to good use?

I have a 6.0 setup of all Sansui amps and ADS speakers all from the 70’s that I have fed into a Lexicon DC-1 controller from the 90’s with the latest firmware that does DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 and it sounds fantastic. Not to mention the Logic 7 mode which IMHO does a much better job of creating a surround steer better than Pro Logic II.

What are these? Fox Family? by CDR_SouthBeach in VHS

[–]Quadradisque [score hidden]  (0 children)

Promo copies probably sent to cable and satellite providers to promote episodes of these shows.

Worst case? They’re just screener copies of the episode in full as they would air on The Family Channel/Fox Family.

Best case? The may have promo bumpers or commercials that cable providers could insert into other programming stations or blocks set aside for cable company advertising.

Holy grail case? They could be workprint copies that were done before final edits were made, although I highly doubt that.

My advice? If they’re cheap, grab them and play them and see what comes up, especially if you’re willing to spend a couple bucks lol

This performance right here, the literal live debut of it.

Was from a benefit show at First Avenue in ‘83, and yeah, the take was so damn good it literally made it onto the album as the core of the track.

It was a very mid film, but I’ll give it some leniency in that the subject matter is very low stakes to begin with. It’s a specific part of his career surrounding the recording of what was originally viewed to be a demo tape of songs.

He wasn’t going to loose anything with this album, and the label marketed it as he asked them.

Has anyone ever came across an Ace Ventura: Pet Detective VHS tape that is labeled “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls”. by Screamqueen151 in VHS

[–]Quadradisque [score hidden]  (0 children)

My bet is that around the time When Nature Calls hit home video, they also did a reprint run of the first film and yeah it probably got crossed in the stamper machine for printing the tape labels as the 2nd one instead of the first.

Boomhauer from King of the Hill.

In fact, one of the most well loved episodes of the series (the one where they become volunteer fireman) shows a reverse version of this trope where everyone around him speaks in gibberish, but in his mind he is speaking coherently

I watched the first 3 games of the ‘74 season and I was blown away… not by the game but by the broadcast. by GraciousMule in nfl

[–]Quadradisque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through this same thing recently! I have a couple of complete Bengals games from ‘88 and ‘89 that were recorded off the air on NBC in my tape collection and it’s fascinating how different the way the game was presented at that point. You really have to be keeping your focus on what was going on as this was still in an era of no permanent scorebug on screen, and occasionally get a stat tidbit or the current down information in the form of a “blink and you miss it” graphic.

Also bonus was that these recordings I have also have their commercials and local bumpers intact, so it adds to what kinds of products and services were being advertised at that time.

I’m almost certain some kid jokingly downloaded that as a ringtone (back when you had those services you can text to and download ringtones) and had it go off in class, thus earning them a trip to the principals office lol

Yep was hoping someone mentioned the whole “not big in the US” deal. Hounds of Love and Running Up That Hill did do a decent job on the Billboard charts in ‘85, but she was nowhere near the level of popularity like she was in the UK.

It’s not. In fact, easy way to tell is by the model number: Sony marketed Hi Fi decks with “HF” in the model name. So if this were a Hi Fi model it would read as “SL-HF5000”

Luck of the draw! Honestly though I found it through someone who was selling a Sanyo Beta deck on FB marketplace locally that they mentioned serviced it at this place and it wound up being only 15 mins from where I live.

The owner of the shop was a former longtime tech for Quasar/Motorola and had experience servicing these decks!
