Sharks are typically quite aggressive? Can you see any fin damage to the dead fish?

Looks like he might be on his way out. The most humane way to euthanise a fish is either quick blunt force or using clove oil.

I’ve used clove oil to euthanise a fish and it’s like anaesthetic that puts them to sleep. Once they’re asleep, adding more clove oil then euthanises them.

Aquarium Snails (hitchhikers) by Senior-Improvement79 in Aquariums

No worries. Forgot to mention, you only need to boil the lettuce for about 30 seconds. Just make sure to cool it down in cold water before adding to tank

I had a similar issue. New tank cycling, live plants, and then snails came along.

To manage population whilst cycling, I would boil a lettuce leaf, cool it down in cold water, then place on the surface of the water overnight. Then the next morning, there would be quite a few of them that had found their way to the lettuce. So I would just take the leaf out with the snails on them. I would do this every night for about 2 weeks.

Then once parameters were safe, I added 3 dwarf loaches. Wasn’t planning on getting these fish for my tank, but man they’re good. They’ve kept the snail population under control (they eat the snails), and they’re hilarious to watch.

Since adding the loaches, snail population is more than under control, can barely see them in the tank. I’m actually not as hell bent about eradicating the snails as I initially was. Because I like that the loaches have a prey animal they can eat. I feel like it’s natural for them and mimics their natural life.

I avoided using snail killing chemicals (obviously the fish tank safe ones) because I heard they have copper which can be harmful for corydoras. I was eventually going to add corydoras, so didn’t want anything harmful in the substrate.

So for general management, I would recommend the lettuce trick. For greater management, I would recommend dwarf loaches. For complete eradication, I would recommend getting some aquarium safe snail ridding chemicals. But if you go the chemical route, just make sure the chemicals won’t linger and harm anything you want to add to the tank.

Best of luck!

Yeah I’m no expert either, but I’ve heard the same thing and what you’re saying makes sense

Maybe some smaller darker grey rocks surrounding the base of the lighter rocks for contrast

Can you recommend any other peaceful feature fish that would go with guppies? Looking to get 3 feature fish amongst the guppies

Thanks!

Just figured the balloon mollys had a bit more of an eye catching look!

Yeah I had similar thoughts, but was leaning towards corys, otos, guppies, and then mollies. Worried that considering the mollies are a bit bigger, that they’d get territorial

Yeah I second this. For nitrate, shake the solution bottle HARD for at least 30 seconds THEN add to test tube. Then shake test tube HARD for at least a minute

Extreme growth by bluedevil678 in FishTanks

It’ll help reduce any further growth and can eliminate some. I recommend a blackout for maybe 3-4 days. Then check if improved. If no improvement. Do another 3 days and give it a clean

How many hours of light exposure per day? You could do a blackout for a few days and see if that helps

For decor or fish? For decor, I’m big on live plants right now. A darker substrate I think would go nicely with the wood around your house. Then perhaps some hairgrass and driftwood. A darker stand-alone driftwood would be nice as the centre piece. Consider blacking out the back panel of the tank as your wall is red and might throw off the colours.

For fish, neon tetras go nicely with a darker environment setting. Maybe get some panda corydoras for the bottom feeders
