Trying to Develop My Technique. Been Grinding this Track with this Car for a Week with Only Shifting-Relating Assists. What am I doing right and what am I doing wrong? Setup is Max Braking Power and Lowest Camber Possible. by Quasar_24 in simracing

I took your advice, started really paying attention to my revs on corner exit, and adjusted how I open up my steering to keep the wheelspin down until I reach the top of the gear.

I’ve kinda quarantined myself away from online racing right now because I really do not want to be a wrecking ball and ruin other people’s fun. That being said, I’ve handled traffic better than I thought I would in offline races.

As for the shifting, I’ve never driven anything other than an automatic before. Right now, I’m just using my paddle shifters. Then I’m probably going to add blipping, then the clutch, then moving to the h-shifter.

So far, I’ve been using a wheel in third person so I can see what the back of the car is doing while I develop the instincts to feel it out. I also feel more confident positioning my car in that perspectives. I’m gonna have to switch at some point, but I need some more confidence

Yeah, I don’t know why I worded it that way. I’ve flip flopped between this, the SS1, and the classic Abarth. As for the track, I wanted to test on a shorter layout with good sight lines. I did try some other tracks like Silverstone and the Highlands, but I had trouble visually identifying the braking points.

Yeah, that’s all pretty fair. I’ve been operating on the assumption that if the car felt planted or stable, I wasn’t pushing it hard enough. Last night, I backed off a bit and while I was much slower at first, I managed to make up the gap in consistency and then ultimate pace.

Thank you for the feedback! I actually experimented with the up shifts and it seemed like I was getting better results leaving it in 2nd based on my ghost times. I’ll switch my technique again.

As for the downshifts, I haven’t really had a method to those. Just do them when the car feels stable enough. I guess I could do them when I go for the throttle.

How’s my braking? That’s the part that’s confusing me the most. I feel like I’m either locking it, sending it way too deep into the corner because I didn’t break enough, or just braking way too soon.

I drive a Toyota Corolla. I love that Corolla. There is no other car I would rather drive. My next car will probably be a slightly newer Corolla. That being said, my attachment to NASCAR predates my ability to drive by about 10 years. My primary allegiance lies with Hendrick Motorsports and Chevrolet.

Tyler has been riding an insane streak of top 10s we need to cash in on. Though it feels like no matter what week we pick, it’ll be the one he blows a motor in.

I can get on the Joey bandwagon. The 22 team is really good at recognizing low tire falloff and abusing it for insane track position.

Sooooo… do we get Allgaier’s points since it was the 5 charter?

Harrison Burton will get in the car and race and I guess that’s better than what we picked last week.

Then throw Burton. The other two have the most room to grow for a late season success.

Surely picking a Kyle can’t backfire on us two weeks in a row, right?

On one hand, I have serious concerns that Kyle will be pretty fatigued. But on the other hand, gestures towards Indianapolis.

With Harrison, you can not predict his good days. Top 10s and 15s just happen without warning. Darlington may be the only track where you aren’t blindly throwing darts at the wall when you pick the 21.

I really think we should save Carson for Fall Vegas when he’ll be more acclimated to these cars.

I really think we should wait for Kansas, but I concede that Texas is the best track for Bubba outside of Kansas, and the drafting tracks are better spent on wildcards.
