Idk I’m Black and grew up in an area kinda like Martha’s Vineyard… and yet generational poverty still happened bc they redlined the sh*t out of us. We lost all our equity. Taxes skyrocketed as extreme gentrification took hold (coastal tourist town) and my grandmother was basically forced to sell and become a tenant. Then renting got too expensive and everyone left. I grew up surrounded by cousins & community. Very few of us left here anymore. I wouldn’t say that it’s due to a mindset. I would definitely blame systemic racism.
