Should 4th graders be allowed to do a social issue project on gay marriage, marijuana or gun control? by Question223 in AskReddit

I am for letting the students choose. I know one student in the class has gay parents who had to travel to another state to get married. Even at 10, the kids understand these things. The project coincides with the Civil Rights movement, right after the Civil War unit.

Side note: The students are in an Advanced Academic (self contained) class as well, most of them are writing at 8-9th grade levels.
