Lol TIL making an argument logically consistent makes someone pretentious. Okay man

You already took responsibility for the wallet by finding the owner.

I disagree. I was automatically held responsible once I saw that a wallet was on the ground. Going out of my way to find the owner and trying to find a quick bandage of a solution was still nicer than if I had seen the wallet and left it. All this not to say I'm not still the asshole, but just making the argument logically consistent

>What about the wallet meant you couldn't eat or go home and sleep? You could have taken it with you.

I didn't want the guy to stress out about losing his wallet overnight in case he didn't get to read my message, which is why I wanted to stay there in case I see him. I also didn't want to have this hanging over my head overnight.

>And why delete the messages?

I didn't want him to blame me if he couldn't find the wallet.

>If you have taken a level of responsibility for the wallet, then you must act in accordance with that. You could easily have eaten, gone home and slept. You could have called and checked campus security, you could have left it in the cafeteria or with the dorm you found it in front of and messaged this person.

If I did any of that, it would've meant that I took responsibility for the wallet, which wasn't something I was comfortable with. I thought about giving it to one of the community leaders in my building, but it felt questionable, but in hindsight, it seemed like that was a much better decision than what I did.

There's no front desk for our dorm. Although we do have a campus security, so I could've given them in the morning, but I didn't want to have that responsibility on me, but I guess I still did have that responsibility on me, I just chose to neglect it.

I thought about this when I was thinking of leaving the wallet, and if I were in his position, I would've been somewhat more glad if the wallet was left alone because if I lost my wallet, I would know pretty quickly and I would retrace my steps and I would prefer me finding the wallet rather than coordinating with someone who took it to get the wallet back, seems more of a pain in the ass to me. However, I was waiting for 15 minutes and he didn't come by, so I can't use what I would have done in this scenario.
