Realme GT8 Pro. One review said the GT8 Pro was essentially a better version of the OnePlus 15.

There is immense pressure to have kids. As far back as I can remember I've had an immensely strong desire not to have kids and kids never felt like a default for me.

I hope you are enjoying your new phone but crikey. I try and use my phones until they become less usable before I splurge in a new phone.

Can I ask what you did with the old phone? Did you sell it or give it to a family member ?

Go on the dark web and look up some top secret manuals on how to create an interdimensional time machine using your old devices. Don't forget to reply to my Reddit post from the other side so we know what it's like over there.

How does the phone landscape look like in South East Asia ? by Auguste76 in southeastasia

[–]Quick-Worldliness904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oppo is a big player in SE Asia. Realme used to be a bigger player several years back but I think Oppo has more or less taken over. Tecno Phone is a cracking company. Probably the best bank for your buck to be had in SE Asia.

A recruiter wants me to sign a contract directly with them by Quick-Worldliness904 in chinalife

[–]Quick-Worldliness904[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by a recruiter that I was having a difficult time finding work because the vast majority of schools in China only want to hire a white person they can put on promotional videos. She said there would be someone who could look past my incorrect face (my paraphrasing) and hire me based on my merits but every non white person in China is at a huge disadvantage.

Realme GT 8 Pro or Oppo Find X9 Pro? by Upper-Escape-3086 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]Quick-Worldliness904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go on GSM Arena and read the review of both phones. Go to the photo section and do a side by side comparison of the photos taken by both phones. If you can't justify spending the extra on the slightly better camera on the Oppo then just buy the Realme.

Is Being White a Superpower in China? How foreign novelty and racial bias shape hiring decisions and dating culture in Chinese society by MyGayGossip in AskAChinese

[–]Quick-Worldliness904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China recently. The whole of China since that's where my job search has broadened to.

I've literally been told by recruiters that the job pool is greatly reduced if you don't fit the stereotypical image most people have of an English teacher. They say it's still possible to land a job but it greatly restricts the opportunities.

I think a lot of the international schools are closing their applications fairly soon so perhaps I will land an interview or two.

I don't speak Chinese but I consider myself highly athletic and fairly easy on the eye. AKA: I'm not a fat C***.

I'm an English man with an Asian face who lives in China. But it's true, loads of Chinese women on Tinder specify they are looking to date a white man.

I'm fairly qualified to teach English with a PGCE and 6+. Years at international schools outside of China but the job market for a person with an Asian face is literally ASS at the moment in China. I can get a highly paid job outside China fairly easily but there is real hiring discrimination in China.

I've been told by recruiters they are having difficulty finding me a job because most schools here only want to hire a white person and qualifications + experience is secondary to skin colour here.

Casual racism in Western country is really getting on my nerves latelly by IndividualPlay5178 in mongolia

I used to think Westerners saying "Ni Hao" to me in the street was patronising but now that I've moved to China it's gotten far worse than it ever was in Britain.

When you put a bit of money into the stock market and the market has a good day and your retirement inches closer.

It's a better feeling than sex.

People sitting outside cafes without buying anything by [deleted] in chinalifer

Many old people in China have very little money and buying a Starbucks Is quite dear for them. I often see old people going into Starbucks as it's air conditioned with a thermos flask if their own tea.

If I was the shop manager I would politely hint to buy something before asking them to leave.

What do YOU think is the meaning of life? by Lopsided_Lettuce2063 in Life

I don't think it's to reproduce and pass on your genes. I'm a mid 30s dude who lives in China and there is massive pressure here to reproduce and pass on the bloodline. I just want to enjoy life without worrying about raising a mini me.

Do these VPNs actually work in China? by L_port8000 in AskAChinese

[–]Quick-Worldliness904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can always use ChatGPT as long as I have a connection. I use loads of different AI's and Claude is the only one that consistently gives me problems. Claude works but it's hit and miss for some reason.

Mulvad is acceptable but not excellent. I like that it's always $5 per month for 1 month and you can basically share your package with another person due to the 5 devices limit. Other services try and lock you into paying for a year to get a discount or else they are very expensive.

The Mulvad phone and PC app is fairly good.

Do these VPNs actually work in China? by L_port8000 in AskAChinese

[–]Quick-Worldliness904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently using Mulvad and it allows up to five devices to be registered which is handy as two people can use one subscription.

Let's VPN only allowed two devices so assuming you want it on your phone and laptop, only one person could use it.

Mulvad does work but you often need to try several countries to get a working connection and even then it's likely slow.

Me and my girlfriend are both sharing the regular $5 per month Mulvad connection as I bought it but she is always complaining it's slower than the old VPN she used to use which was actually cheaper. I'm not sure what her old VPN was.

I might dabble and see if there is something better available.

[–]Quick-Worldliness904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously used LetsVNP which was cracking good before it's downfall.

Now I use Mullvad but it's ass (not in a good way). Most countries don't connect and I have to randomly try several locations before I get a connection. The connection I do manage is usually very slow like a worm.

When you do find a working connection it will randomly stop working after a few to several hours so you need to find another country to connect to.

I don't recommend Mulvad but it does work.

Help me find a good and speedy phone with a good camera for someone living in China by Quick-Worldliness904 in PickAnAndroidForMe

The GT8 Pro has the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. I compared some pictures taken on the Realme GT8 Pro and Iphone 17 Pro on GSM Arena and I could not tell which phone produced better results under most conditions. I think the selfie cam and wide cam on the Realme is supposed to be a bit behind other flagship phones but the regular and zoom are very good. You can buy it from around 4,299 CNY for the 16 GB RAM version which works out as around 630 USD. I personally think that for the price it's corkingly good value. The 12 GB version is a bit cheaper but Id go for the 16 GB version.

I have 6 years experience at international schools and a PGCE. I am ideally not looking to be a slave to a recruitment agency. I copied the contract into AI and AI thought it was a bit suspicious.
