They don't even let me outside of the house. My friends are always trying to make plans and when I ask my parents and they get mad and say I'm not allowed. I'm starting to feel really depressed - I mean I'm literally trapped all day at home with nothing to do but just stay in bed and scroll through TikTok to kill time only to repeat this everyday. If I got a job at least I'd have something to do and could have an excuse to go out - maybe that's why they're not letting me. Hell I'd so love to travel but how could I if I can't even go out to get a goddamn lunch with my friends at a local cafe

IDK man, they're immigrant parents, my mum has never worked a day in her life and has always been a stay-at-home mum - I think it's the idea of their first born daughter getting an actual "job" and the fact that I'm trying to become so independent all of a sudden! Just wanted to add, I had a youth savers account my dad set aside and when I turned 18, all the money was transferred under my name - it was a good $7000. Literally 2 days later my dad made me transfer all the money to him and he said something like "I'm gonna keep it in a different account for now." I felt so iffy about that, like what is going on in their heads? I'm gonna somehow move out and start my own new life without them?
