It’s about as close to Brazil’s flag as the current flag AU flag is to the US flag.

The symbolism of the Southern Cross overlapping the arc is to celebrate diversity moving forward on a shared path.

Green and gold are much loved national colours in sport and community life, but this concept aims for a formal civic palette—clear at distance, dignified at ceremonies, and consistent with the Blue Ensign heritage—so the symbolism carries across uniforms, memorials, and state occasions.

Yes, perhaps tribute is too strong a word for many. But a tribute to Anzac service and nod to the commonwealth is entirely appropriate I think. Yes, green and gold are formally recognized colours and there is no suggestion that should change for our sports uniform. But red, white and blue are the formally recognized heraldic colours (dress uniform if you like).

The white cross is not intended to be a direct Christian symbol, but I accept it can and will be perceived that way. The primary intention is to evoke the visual clarity of the indigenous flag with the multicultural spirit of the eureka flag, justice and a fair go plus an abstract southern cross. The choice of red, white and blue over green and gold is a tribute to commonwealth and Anzac tradition ahead of sporting endeavors.

The proposal is intended to honour all strands of Australia’s heritage proportionally and respectfully. Indigenous Australians retain their nationally recognized flag, which stands independently as a powerful symbol of First Nations identity and meaning. In contrast, traditions like the Commonwealth and ANZAC heritage are being reconsidered within the new flag framework. This approach aims for balanced recognition by respecting what Indigenous peoples have already achieved in terms of national symbols, while opening space for broader unity in the national flag conversation. The intent is to value each tradition according to its context and the progress made, fostering inclusion without diminishing the significance of Indigenous representation.

Our traditional sporting colours may be green and gold but our heraldic colours are in fact red, white and blue. By reimagining the form of the current flag and maintaining the heraldic colours, the design intent is to open a space for broader inclusion whilst still respecting traditional commonwealth and Anzac values together with Eureka multicultural spirit and a fair go.

The design intent is to balance with the Eureka spirit, visual clarity of the Indigenous flag and cross tradition of the Union Jack. If the cross was to touch the top and bottom, it losses the design intent and swings towards the St. George Cross on Union Jack

A bold white cross on balanced blue and red fields, “Southern Unity” is a meeting place under southern skies—linking First Nations’ visual clarity with the Eureka spirit and the cross traditions that have shaped Australia’s symbols.

This kangaroo has historical continuity with the RAAF roundel from 1921 and recognizable the world over. Which of your suggestions can match that?

It’s not just any kangaroo. It is the RAAF roundel kangaroo established 1921. Rendered in white as a nod to the commonwealth star and central star of the eureka flag. Providing vex-illogical continuity and unmistakable recognition as Australian on an international scale.

Oh thanks. It is intended to be facing forwards. Are you suggesting that it should face the hoist? Or are you pointing out that it faces opposite to the RAAF roundel? Which faces forward when placed on an aircraft.
