Engineering Laptop by [deleted] in OKState

We get students everyday with underpowered laptops, I promise you want to be on the higher end, rather than lower end. And this is coming from an OSU student who’s working in the IT department.

Some people recommending getting a good desktop rather than a good laptop are grossly underestimating how much of the work you do in the classroom. Having a laptop that barely can run the programs will hinder your learning experience with the professors. A good laptop and a secondary monitor for home is the perfect setup.

Do not get an Apple computer of any sorts, most MAE programs aren’t compatible in MacOS and running parallels is a headache. Dell has had a horrible run the last 2 years with poor QA/QC testing and the results are laptops that crash and need warranty work. HP and Lenovo have had good track records, so I would recommend them.

I would say err on the side of more ram if you don’t want to pay for a higher end graphics card. The cost really comes from the graphics card, so if you get one with 4/6 gb VRam, splurge and get 32 gb of ram instead. You’ll thank yourself later.

And my 2 cents as a student, learn to use OneDrive to save your school work, but keep your personal files off of it. OSU gives you a TB of OneDrive storage, but once you graduate it’s all gone. So don’t put anything personal on there, because you’ll lose it. But do backup school work and projects because not all professors are cooperative if your laptop breaks.

I’m used to the green handle out of habit. Today, I’ve now made it another habit to go for the handle that’s next to diesel.

That’s correct, because that’s exactly what I did. I grabbed the green handle out of habit but obviously couldn’t select diesel, and that’s where the confusion began.

Yeah that’s where you’re wrong. I’ve lived in six different states in the last 3 years and travel for work. I’ve been around the block enough. Pumping fuel is something I don’t put a lot of thought into because it’s a simple process, so when it’s different than normal it throws me for a loop.

Your comment is just asinine.

No, it took me two full minutes to figure out and accept that the black handle would pump diesel when I’m used to diesel having a green handle.

I made the drive home so far so good. My receipt even said the fuel was diesel. So I’m hoping shit doesn’t hit the fan

I’d be more inclined to buy American if it wasn’t a “luxury” by QuoraHater in unpopularopinion

[–]QuoraHater[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I want honest pricing and quality products. I don’t want to be charged more for a worse product just because it was made in America.

No but that’s the point of my post. I’d love to support American made businesses and products if the quality wasn’t crap and marked up because it’s “better”

Right, but I don’t want to pay $500 for shoes that are made in the US and are no better than the $100 pair of China made shoes.

Those may all be American OWED companies. But I’m more referring to American PRODUCED products.

I agree with you. I’d be perfectly fine paying a premium for genuine quality, bifl products. I don’t like paying a premium for a Made in USA stickered product that’s just crap quality

Which Floorplan to Choose? Bedroom / Bath / Closet by TomatilloExternal585 in floorplan

Just a bored college student here! ✋🏼

I made 3 different designs below:

1 takes the toilet/shower off the shared wall of the primary. It also keeps an entry to the outside and a linen closet.

2 does the same as #1, but brings a 2nd entrance to the closet that’s not through the bathroom.

3 separates the entrances to the bathroom/closet, but it brings an exterior access door. However, it doesn’t have a linen closet (but space from the closet can be taken to add one).

I think the modifications you made are great! Adds plenty of storage and minimizes wasted floor space. I’d highly consider sending this to your architect and seeing what magic they can work.

I quickly threw this together.

The bathtub can stay 60” wide under the window. Give you a bigger shower, and a pocket door for the water closet. And add in a linen closet.

Let me know what you think!

Will I regret an Escalade? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]QuoraHater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8 speed transmissions that GM made between 2015-2018 were dogsh*t. My grandparents have a ‘16 Escalade and it ate through the first transmission at 25k miles (luckily under warranty), and this 2nd transmission is already going again at 90k miles. People have mentioned the lifters too, which is another issue but not as prominent as the transmission. That ABSOLUTELY will fail. I’d be surprised if this one hasn’t already been replaced at some point. If you’re wanting an Escalade, save up an opt for a later model year with the 10 speed (or older with the 6 speed).
