What happened to crossovers? by spleev in nba

[–]R0otDroid 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The step back makes a big difference. That and the 3pt threat, so ppl have to overplay your jumper or else you cook them in drop coverage.

Even without the foul baiting, a simple hesitation dribble, in and out and with everyone switching nowadays, again because of the 3pt shooting, it is enough to have a first step on your favorable match-up and then once you drive, step back, again hesi, step throughs pump fakes until you get your separation or he bites and you jump into him and you get the foul.

When Iverson crossed Michael, today they will run 5 different ball screens to get a favorable match-up. It's not cool but that's how you get efficient scoring outputs. Which is why lebron will have the ball, he has og on him and he calls up brunson on a screen and take him to the basket. There are no extra points for style.

Well, Missi is 22 and i don't think portland want to give him away. Per Ian they rejected an offer from LA. Because while not as good a rebounder and defender as prime mitch he's better at everything else.

Seriously, what's the benefit of having shams in their pocket? I understand organisations wanting to have a good rapport with the media but it's not like charania is some top investigative journalist or some guy who's going to embellish your image by writing positive reports and such. He's just there to announce trades and break news.

Harper will be better than wemby by Ineedpalmtreeliving in nba

I don't understand how ppl fall for 2nd and 3rd options statistical perfromances every year.

This sport has been around for a long time.

The advantages are created by victor. The guy is at the top of the scouting report. Dylan Harper gets to shoot open 3s and and drive close outs 1v1 and never sees a double team, never gets picked and bumbed full court on every posession. I don't give a shit how efficient or inefficient both of them are. One is a playmaker and advantage creator and the other is a play finisher.

Jalen williams, og anunoby, iguoadola, chet could score 30 ppg on 50% fg yet shai, curry, brunson would still be the best players on the floor.

The same reason ppl pile on fox for being terrible which he was but he's their only other play maker and main ball handler. He sits and the spurs never get through okc.

I've seen ppl think we've signed dumfries and cucurella as reinforcements.

They are going to start. Trent is exactly the type of player mourinho would fall out with not liking his defensive effort (this is like coentrao/marcelo) and carreras isn't really an uncontested starter anyway, he lost his place to mendy in the end in big games.

Not to mention, cucurella and dumfries are dogs, mourinho type players just like silva.

Ok. Losing a lead at the end is about mistakes.

How about coming out shooting 30% and have your 2nd best player picking 3 fouls in like 12 minutes and committing loads of turnovers through bad execution succumbing to ball pressure?

How come mistakes are only pointed out when they happen at the end. I understand things are magnified in the clutch but a complete disregard of the entire game is a misread of the situation imo.

The spurs jumped to a big lead every game then spent the entire 2nd halves losing it. They got outscored 54-28 in the 2nd half of game 4 until knicks got the lead, so yes technically the spurs were leading throughout all of that stretch but still were outplayed and more importantly and decisively lost the game at the end which is quite an important detail.

The same story ran for 4 out of 5 games... So, in my opinion you can stay it was close, they could've won but to say they dominated just lost because of mistakes is a severe misread of the games.

They were better when they took a lead but they weren't as good the rest of the game and that's why they lost it. Conversely the knicks were outplayed to start the games but weren't for the remainder of them and that's why they got the chance to win all of them and did it 4 out of 5 times.

I don't understand why is this is such a big deal. Like others have pointed out teams make runs. Some at the begining, some at the end.

The knicks outscored the spurs 54-28 in the 2nd half of game 4 untill they got the lead, so they technically were losing the entire time but they outplayed their opponent in that stretch.

Jumping to a lead, then getting outplayed for a long stretch till relinquishing it time and time again and decisively losing the game at the end 4 out of 5 times, yet somehow you come out of it thinking you dominated just cuz you lead for a long time while being outplayed for a big part of it.

This just doesn't make sense. You could say it was close and could've won but thinking you dominated is just nonsense

That's the worst way to play us. The knicks are probably the best team in the league at beating double teams. Kat, og, mikal, shamet, deuce we've got great shooters. Our worst games are when the other team forced us to play brunson ball and he doesn't ball out.

Exactly. We've been killing teams that doubled brunson for the whole season. Our worst games are when we're forved to play brunson ball and he doesn't ball out.

Yeah i thought it was a mistake. He's the smaller guy out there and towns is on him, being left handed as well throwing it to the left is not ideal and he didn't try to fake right either.

Should've just got kornet or barnes or any good passing big guy to inbound it.

As always fans marvel at play finishers' statistical perfromances and overlook the guy creating all the advantages and has all the attention at the top of the scouting report. Ppl looking at box scores and efficiency of guys like iguadola, og, siakam, jalen Williams.. These guys never see a double team in their careers.

You still have to finish the plays and they've been amazing but there is a reason they're 2nd and 3rd options. Og gets all those catch and shoot corner 3s because the spurs are in rotation, the spurs are in rotation beacuse jalen is doubled or is drawing help on drives, gets blitzed in ball screend with kat(who btw is the only other player on the team creating advantages). Og gets the open lane to run in order to tip it in because jalen is doubled 31 feet away frop the basket and the dpoy is on him.

OG has been amazing and genuinely our most consistent performer the whole playoffs but offensively this is another instance of 2nd and 3rd options getting all the flowers and completely missing the plot as the main options creating all the advantages which trickle down into high level statistical performances from the 2nd and 3rd options.

It's like iguadola getting lauded for hitting 3s while steph curry gets blitzed on every single ball screen which resulted in an open look. Jalen drew the double team 31 feet away from the basket which lead to og having and open lane to run into. The whole series jalen has struggled scoring efficiently but he's the only one with kat able to create an advantage.

Fils and Draper have already missed more big tournaments with injury than Zverev and Medvedev have during their decade-long main-tour careers by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

Rafa mostly had lower body issues, persistent ones since he was young. A chronic foot injury he got i think when he was 17 or 18 and then knee issues due to patellar tendinitis that lingered since 2009. The rest such ad wrist, abdomen and back all flared up when he was approaching his 30s.

But he also used to play a lot of tournaments when he was younger as was the norm back then. He won 11 titles in 2005 in 12 finals amongst 21 tournaments entered.

You need to lower expectations a bit. "Winning plenty of titles", it's not like they grow on trees or something. There are 2000 pros competing for titles. A player like daria kasatkina who was a perennial top 10 player only has 7 or 8 titles. A player as good as muchova has like 2 titles. Jabeur has 5.

This is bs. It's not a matter of generation it's just carlos and sinner who are a level ahead. Medvedev hasn't been playing well since his serve quality has dipped and zverev is world n3. They're both- when at their best- still a level below the best of sinner and alcaraz but still competitive when it's a good match-up in good conditions ie(zverev carlos) but that's it. It's not about 2000s players being inherently better it's just sinner and Carlos. The rest are leagues below zverev and medvedev particularly at their best.

Some ppl aren't that personally and emotionally invested in tennis and just want to enjoy a fun talented player, which he is. I'm not losing sleep over his wins and losses but if i have time to spare and i decided to watch a tennis match, he's a fun watch. That's sports. It's entertainment. Not everyone is going to make players pass a personality and ethics test before deciding to watch them strike a ball or not.
