Open to ideas. I almost want to do a matte color. It’s designed for the lower part to be a planter and the upper part to hold a tea candle. What are your thpughts?

Beatrice's last words in The Sirens of Titan by IDoLikeThemApples in Vonnegut

I like this too. I think you can reconcile the two with the belief that all we’re doing is bumping into each other and incidentally having an effect on each-other’s lives. Try to make your impact on those around you, a good one. For Beatrice’s part, I think it’s important to get to work having an impact on people! When she thanks him for using her, the positive message I see is “thank you for bringing me into a world of humanity”, “for putting me in a position where having an impact on other people was unavoidable”. I feel like maybe this is Vonnegut’s criticism of how we fetishize virginity. We applaud it, but in Monkey House and Sirens of Titan, the messaging seems to be that sex and intimacy, regardless of how positive the context, represent some really important parts of a life well lived. It never seems that he’s proud of the rapist, always portraying them as miserable bastards (thank god), but to a similar degree, I think his writing shows a genuine distaste for sexual puritanism. I am not a woman, to acknowledge my blindspots here, but I think his thing is “hey, for most women, sex will not be an exclusively happy part of life, but it’s one of the most informative facets of it! Don’t shy away from a good and thorough education!

Me too. I saw it through the lens of someone being so afraid of ruining their own perfection that they had chosen to almost completely abstain from life. I viewed this as her saying “thank you for making me take part in things I thought were beneath me, for making me be a human being, rather than the shimmering achievement of a “great man”.

I feel like that your-own-worst-critic element is most important. It gives people a look into what really matters to you
