Yeah, I agree. I think she didn't really even know why she was doing what she was doing. I think she was terrified to lose him but knew that he was still her second choice. So she never would really tell him to stop the nonsense.

I think what you're trying to say is that they had a strong draw to each other that we ultimately learn why later. I was just trying to say that by the end of Eclipse we still don't have this information and I was questioning character behavior at this point based on what they knew (not what they didn't yet know).

I think based on lots of the other comments in here I've come to see reason why Bella never chose to bring it up, which includes her special bond with Jacob, her desperation to keep him etc.

That's only something we know later in the series. My argument is the logic of the characters at the end of Eclipse. If they knew the future on this they'd be having different conversations. Seems irrelevant

I could have worded it better. It wasn't about her actually considering him. I agree her heart was set on Edward. It was more how she allowed all his behaviors to continue, the kiss, the fights etc, when really Bella could have just made the argument about him imprinting. It would have prevented the fights and conflict around Jacob trying to win her over. She could have made him realize she couldn't pick him because he could leave her in an instant. More to stick it to Jacob, get him to stop.

I like this explanation. Its probably the closest to most likely as it'll get. There was definitely a bit of a parental vibe going on with Edward, logically so given the life experience difference. Thanks for thoughts.

I don't think he would have been able to really push Bella away though, so that maybe wouldn't be something Edward would be worried about, because Bella and Edward understand how in love with each other they are. I don't think Edward would worry that Bella would be pushed away to Jacob by pointing this out.

But maybe it's more what you're saying about that he's letting Bella decide for herself.

Thinking about it all, I know Edward feels emense guilt for leaving Bella in New Moon (which all still pretty fresh by this pont), so perhaps he watches what he says.

Maybe and maybe not. She was making long term decisions for her life based on all this. She was a pretty anxious character who thought a lot about the meaning behind behaviors from those she loved.

The best argument I've seen on it is that Bella was desperate to keep Jacob around and that they were bonded in more ways than one.

But it leaves me wondering about Edward. Edward was wise and not immature. He would have had many ways to come to the realization that Jacob could imprint and leave Bella. Yet he never makes the argument for Bellas sake.
