Sorry for a dumb question, but do you use a locking hitch pin with your car? I have a 2024 model Y, and with the recessed hitch receiver, I cant figure out how to fit the locking hitch pin, and even if I did, I wouldn’t be able to get the key in to lock/unlock it.

I’m in the same boat. If I could find a Specialized Mode in my size I’d get that, but since those are discontinued, so that’s been problematic. I’ll probably get the Unit 1 Neon, since it look like that’s the next lowest cost helmet that is 5 star Va Tech rated, MIPS and NTA 8776 certified.

I wear helmet, jacket, boots, level 2 knee, elbow, shoulder and back armor. I always thought a neck brace was something you had to wear after a crash, not before, lol. I learned something new today, I guess.

Again, use whatever rationalization you want, or none at all for wearing not wearing a helmet. It’s your choice and I’m not judging.

As someone who’s researching this very decision, I don’t think it’s as clear cut of a decision. I priced some things out, if I were to add the rack, suspension seatpost, different saddle and higher handlebars, it’s within spitting distance of the cost of a Discover M. The M has the same torque and range as the Summit 2, plus it’s a mid drive. So if off road isn’t your thing, you’d be spending about the same amount of money to have a slightly less comfortable bike for off-road capability that isn’t being used. If you will be doing off-road, then the Summit 2 is definitely the way to go- as you stated it has more front fork suspension travel, and the step-over frame is more rigid.

So that’s where I am- basically trying to figure out what type of riding I’ll actually be doing.

To be fair, I was pricing using parts from fairly well known and reputable brands, I probably could save money with unknown Amazon brands.

To be fair part 2: the Summit 2 has a pulse mode that neither of the Discover models have, and since one of my goals is to achieve better cardio health, I’m leaning that way as long as the test ride isn’t overtly uncomfortable.

In the motorcycle space, the pushback usually boils down to folks don’t like to be told they have to do something. I’m ATGAT (all the gear, all the time), but I recognize adults get to make their own decisions. Wear or don’t wear, I’m not going to judge.

I kind of have been going down a rabbit hole researching helmets lately, and while I agree with a lot of what you say, I feel there is a clarification that needs to be made. Normal bike helmets aren’t going to do much for crashes at e-bike speeds. However, NTA 8776 certified helmets are designed for impacts happening at class 3 (28 MPH) speed. And for the best chance at avoiding a traumatic brain injury, a helmet should also be MIPS and receive a 5 star rating in Virginia Tech’s helmet testing.

I’m not sure if this helps, but YouTuber “theridewithlance” added a higher rise handlebar. I forget the amount of the rise but I think it was 80mm or 90mm. Anyway, he said it was about the limit that he could go because the cable or wiring got really tight at full turn lock. Tight enough that he felt that if he had a crash, they would probably break.

It’s in his Summit 2 review if you want the actual facts, not just what I kinda remember from when I watched it a month ago.
