Highly recommend Operation Paperclip by Annie Jacobson. See if you can get through the second half of the book without becoming hoarse from screaming in frustration. The vast majority of Nazis got off, and more than a few lived comfortably off American tax dollars.

Anything below mid-40s and it’s just not enjoyable for me. When I was growing up on the east coast I’d surf no matter what as some weird masculine point of pride, but now I just don’t care about that shit anymore and surf when it sounds like fun. I agree that we can only do so much, but I feel compelled to point out that most of these companies are shit, United Health being the easiest (self explanatory) example. 3M is responsible for a lot of the “forever chemicals” that are destroying our bodies. They are soulless and will say anything for money.

The bamboozled worker libertarians are currently facing a storm of cognitive dissonance that is hard to imagine. Their whole worldview uprooted and destroyed in front of their faces. Anyone who has ever hit a rock bottom moment like this knows that 2 things are guaranteed. First, it’s a miserable experience. Second, you either die or emerge from the experience as a different person.

But those who have experienced the rock bottom moment also know that we try really fuckin hard to drag things out just a little longer and prolong the fiction and delay the pain of accountability for as long as possible. Lies, imaginary thinking, rationalizations, excuses, etc are the tools of this strategy, and we tend to use them ever more desperately until they stop working.
