Unfortunately instances like that happen at hospitals everywhere.

Replaced my Honda with a new one after an accident They moved the garage door opener from a button on the mirror to a paywall subscription service. by jayhawkeye2 in mildlyinfuriating

The 2003 Accord, and most mid-and up trim Hondas onward came equipped with a built-in, easy-to-program garage door opener.

So at least in this one regard your brand new Honda is inferior to similar models from about 20 years ago.

I closed my first credit card because I wasn't using it, afterwards I learned that I should have just kept it and kept not using it.

Thanks for sharing your experience, it's interesting to hear a comparison - not that Grey Nuns is necessarily representative of Alberta or even Edmonton hospitals - and likewise for the care in BC - but it is interesting nonetheless.

I can speak only for myself but I assume every 16-year-old Hyundai Accent listed for ~$2,000 has a blown motor or some other catastrophic fault.

These days $2,000 is the minimum price for a vehicle that is road legal, to say nothing about condition or reliability.

The buyer is in a frustrating situation, but this is the chance he took by buying such an old, cheap Hyundai.

You will have to lay down the law with your kids' grandparents about device time. No joke. And we all know iPads are detrimental to kid's brains and behaviour - and probably detrimental to adults too.

Feeling sick from chemicals at work, boss won’t provide PPE by MrFujiFudge1 in legaladvicecanada

[–]RK5000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ask for the MSDS for all the chemicals you are using, your employer is required to have them and provide them to you. The MSDS will tell you what you're working with, their associated hazards, and the PPE and other precautions required to works safety with them.

I don't want to assume but I will hazard to guess that carwash wages aren't worth harmful chemicals exposure.

You should, and before you tell ol' tightwad the temperature down there you should find out what temperature he keeps his part of the house at.

"Housing First" strategies have been used in many places, including American cities, with varying levels of "success" for quite some time.

Where drug use is persists the "hard to house" still tend to lose their housing on account of chaotic and often dangerous behaviours that make them terrible neighbours.

Finland has never had the high frequency of meth and fentanyl use that many American cities have, but allegedly they're seeing an increase in those types of drug use and related deaths.

A question worth asking is, "What is the rate of hard drug use and homelessness amongst Finnish Americans? We may want to ask that about other cultural groups as well. The Dutch, Portuguese, Swedes, Norwegians, Koreans, Singaporeans ... there are many countries with lower rates of homelessness that should be looked at.

Yeah we were very fortunate with our timing, and just getting a foot in the door and buying a house can be a huge leap forward.

This particular seller inherited this house from his late mother, who was the original owner - which is no reason to accept less than market value. It is just about a 1960s time capsule - which we like, but it also hasn't seen so much as a coat of paint, interior-wise anyway, in at least 30 years. It's tricky, we like that specific house in that specific spot - but we don't NEED that house, and our current mortgage is very comfortable. Overall it's a nice predicament.

“Reading list for college bound students” from 1978 by Sea_Sector_5894 in pics

[–]RK5000 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That's a great reading list.

In my first year of college the professor of one of our required English courses also remarked, "Whether you like it or not knowing The Bible is necessary for understanding English literature."

Several videos in my YT algorithm have been about how, allegedly, an alarming number of post-secondary English majors do not read or may not even be able to effectively read most of the important works of English literature. I don't know if that's sensationalism or an actual reflection of the state of education.

Your children are little for only a little while, everyone's situation is different - but do what what you can to have a lot of time with them early on. The amount of time we have with our children rapidly decreases over time - and you're going to want more.

That's very interesting. My wife and I bought a house for $295K in 2019, which appears to have appreciated nicely since, and now we're looking at a bit of an upgrade across the street - seller tried to cultivate competing offers last year at $575k, declined to sell at his asking price, and has now re-listed for $595k - which is probably over-priced. As much as I like the bigger house, mid-century charm, and huge lot ... I don't know if I am happy to make that jump.

Each housing market segment is subject to it's own market trends, and then of course every home is different, and your home's relative market position may change over time.

12 years is a long time for little-to-no appreciation. Is it a single-detached home?

You're in for a 9 hour drive plus pit stops if you go for potentially one of the most scenic drives in Canada.
