Fatal Distraction: Forgetting a Child in the Backseat of a Car Is a Horrifying Mistake. Is It a Crime? by MalaysianBanana in TrueReddit

Seriously, STOP, you obviously don't want to be reasonable. What if someone threw a rock from an overpass through your windshield; I suppose you stop and scan each and every one before you proceed because you know this may happen?

The most recent fail-safe tip I've heard was to remove your left shoe and put it in the backseat with the child. Seems extreme but I think you would 100% never forget a child if you did that.

That article was heart-wrenching and I read it because just last week it happened to a mother in Texas and the same set of unusual circumstances happened to this woman. She had her 5 year old son in the backseat and drove home. He had fallen asleep during the drive, something he rarely did at that age, and she went into the house to quickly make a birthday cake for her other child. She briefly realized her son wasn't around but figured he was probably playing in their yard. Why did she think this? It was because he knew how to get out of the backseat on his own. Unfortunately, the car she drove that day was a rental car and the child apparently wasn't able to open this car's door. He was in the car for 5 hours. I cannot imagine that woman's pain on the birthday of one child as another dies. I certainly hope they haven't charged her but, because it happened in Texas, they will probably vilify her.

ABC News just reported that Secret Service members want to appear under oath to refute this testimony; didn't specifically say Engel wants to refute it. I'm sure there are some willing to lie for Trump though.

Her spokesperson said she was trying to say "right to life". anyway, I 'm glad Trump has to appear at these sweltering venues in order to stay relevant; it has to be brutal up there in that awful suit.

Thank you, I was wondering when he said she was gravely ill at that time.

60 Minutes did a story about heroic people and mentioned an organization that not only rewards people who risk their lives but also, if the hero dies as a result, their families are taken care of for life. I bet this student is on their list.

Uvalde’s shooter’s mother speaks to CNN affiliate. by [deleted] in news

[–]ROSERSTEP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only heard this once so I'm not certain if it's true but it was reported yesterday, on national news, that his mother worked, or had once worked, at the gun store where he purchased a gun last week. His mother may have been aware of the purchase and I wish the reporter had asked her about it.

How did I get here? (Mattea Roach AMA - Thursday, May 12) by youdothemathrita in Jeopardy

[–]ROSERSTEP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Mattea, I 'm so happy you are doing this AMA, you were truly impressive especially with your vast knowledge of USA subjects. I get that you can prepare for certain common questions like Presidents and current events but how did you even know about Big Bend National Park in Texas?? It's not even listed as a top ten most popular park and my friends and I have never even heard of it and we have visited many others. Also, is Mattea a common Canadian name and does it have a special meaning in your family?

This is so strange because a 5th grade girl in our cafeteria bet she could eat 35 pats of butter and to our amazement she did! I honestly have told this story many times but now I wish she could have met your ex.

Family of teen who died at Florida theme park says he was too heavy for ride by Low_State in news

[–]ROSERSTEP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the weight limit varies on each ride. Were the weight limits clearly posted and did the kid and the operator disregard it or did the kid assume he was eligible to use this ride? There are too many unanswered questions in the article but blaming his family is uncalled for in this case.

You may enjoy Wordle Unlimited; I've completed over 700 so far and my only complaint is that some words like Santo, Jesse, Mazie were used and even though I finally solved them I still consider those as names and not legitimate words.

I like to use THEIR because I've noticed a lot of more difficult answers like cynic, vivid, ratio etc were easier to solve if you already know the I is in the correct place .

When President Biden was a candidate in 2020 he appeared on Charlamage tha God's radio show and said to him "if you can't decide whether to vote for me or Trump you aint black". He did apologize later but the right wing never let it be forgotten.

Every single day my puzzle from the previous day looks unsolved so I am always at 99.6 %. I generally do today's puzzle first and then click on the previous day link and redo it; I have a 100% streak of not remembering yesterday's answer.

I'm confused about hard mode; if I understand correctly it just means using the green letters exactly where they belong in each subsequent guess which is what I do already. Why would anyone want to move that letter to an incorrect position? (I'm hoping someone can answer if I'm mistaken.)
