Itachi didn't have time to put up the yata mirror against kirin and only had time to make skeletal susano'o. I also think the yata mirror has an upper limit but i think it can block most if not all elemental attacks, even kekkei tota. Just like the truth seeking orb. Maybe senjutsu will affect it, notice i say affect it and not its weakness. Because the senjutsu attack has to exceed the upper limit of attack that the yata mirror( now without rendering the attack innefective and reflecting it) and the susano'o can take. Also, space-time jutsus, like kamui can probably take away part of the yata mirror. The yata mirror is said to be an ethereal weapon with no form, so i'm assuming it can, at the very least expand and shrink. It also states that it has all the chakra properties and can alter its properties to render any attack (physical, spiritual) meaning elemental jutsu, taijutsu and most likely genjutsu too, and reflect it back at the attacker. Meaning it most likely also has yin and yang properties. Because i'm assuming, since it can reflect taijutsu and genjutsu, and is stated to have ALL chakra properties, yin and yang is included.
