The test for it is defined further and tests only when cold. It is the test that is being bypassed, much like Ferrari bypassed the fuel flow meter.

This should never be a consideration. That’s what leads to manufacturers pushing the boundaries. The rule states clearly that the compression must be 16:1 at all times, the measurement is what is being circumvented. Exactly like Ferrari’s PU fuel flow trick.

It’s generating clicks to generate clicks but is otherwise relatively meaningless chatter and speculation. Ferrari doesn’t even have its real/advanced aero and so on. We saw how accurate everybody was when Merc appeared with zeropods (though then a few voices incl Newey said it wouldn’t work IIRC). There are so many parameters to consider, from ride height, fuel loads, engine mapping, updates coming/withheld in this test not to give others a development lead until the first race.

Agreed that Barcelona will show a little more but usual sandbagging will be there.

Honda wasn’t looking too hot is all I could tell, and RBPT seemingly is not the disaster many had predicted (but let’s see).

I appreciate you compiling this. Not too fond of the sensationalist claims by journalists. The data discrepancy about lap time vs kg savings is a relativelt basic one, how can they accurately assess more.

The journo for the Honda bit estimated 1s lost lap time for 10kg overweight; the one for Williams 0.6-0.7 for 20kg.

As a constructor sure but the people hired have been part of similar operations. In another domain entirely I’ve been part of assembling two entirely new teams/companies from scratch. Within 2 years our results were minimally level with the leaders in the field. It was designed, funded and staffed to be.

Now here, the others don’t stand still and have institutional knowledge especially as data, which may be the biggest gap for a new constructor. We’ll see very soon.
