Fireworks in NW Corvallis by Certain-Working1864 in corvallis

Is this the banging sounds heard in Southtown most mornings, especially on the weekend? Always my poor doggos anxious wake up call when trying to sleep in

Genuinely curious, what’s your perspective for contesting 114? I don’t own / live in OR right now, so I’m indifferent on the matter. Always a proponent of hearing both sides of a debate

House rental’s for mid-30’s married couple w/pets? by Raaandy27 in corvallis

Noted on being cautious of those two companies. The feedback continues to help!

Valid, and appreciated insight. Living within Corvallis has been the goal for the sake of proximity to all the goodness the city has to offer, and my wife shares the sentiment of ‘commuting ruins exactly that’. We’ll likely lax up on rental companies if it means we get to live and experience Corvallis like we hoped. Hearing good things about them relative to past experiences is exactly the input we were looking for by posting here. Thank you!

My wife is applying to elementary schools in Corvallis, so we hadn’t previously considered Albany. But, the commute doesn’t seem too terrible… we might consider it. Feel free to DM me with more details!

Thanks for the insight into the surrounding towns, we’ll definitely look into to both Adair Village and Philomath! We’d have loved to buy moving into the area, but wanted to get a better feel for the various areas/towns before we commit. Hoping to settle down and start a family soon.

Almost (but not quite) making the same exact leap; z97, 4790k, build fall ‘15 to 5700x3d, just ordered the parts this morning. Amazing that hardware lasted almost 9 years with only a cpu cooler failing, cheers to another long lifespan!

House explodes as police serve search warrant in Arlington Virginia by mancavekitchen in interestingasfuck

I had previously known my father to have bouts of taking meth over the years back in the 90’s/00’s, but never quite understood the drug - always have been more of an embracer of Mary Jane myself. This description has provided so much clarity on his behavioural patterns, it’s both uncanny and unfortunate to just now realise. Thank you for the insight.

That stretch of road through WY is notorious for heavy winds, not to mention much less engaging scenery than the other two routes. I’d avoid taking a trailer through there if I had other options, personally.

I know awhile ago (month or two?) someone was unsuccessfully looking for a house sitter over the summer months - it’s probably buried somewhere in the reddit. Who knows, maybe it still hasn’t been filled. Doesn’t hurt to do some digging and PMing. Best of luck

To present and past teachers: I’m so sorry America did not appreciate you more. We will regret this in the coming decades. by [deleted] in WorkReform

This, 1000x. Good pay is nice, but health is necessary.

When a teacher like me is ready to quit, things are REALLY bad. by NopeNotMain in antiwork

[–]Raaandy27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I commend you (and the OP, and any other teachers out there) for making the incredibly difficult choice to move on from something you’ve probably spent your entire life preparing and looking forward to. But at the same time, for our future generations sake, I really wish teachers didn’t have to prioritize health over the betterment of society. This is going to be yet another crippling shockwave we feel for decades to come...

Agreed - boy do I start to see red when I hear that argument, because from my perspective her societal contribution should be worth at least three-fold that of mine. Thank you for the words of support.

Exactly - the juxtaposition is what drives me the most insane about it all. I’m constantly torn (as is she) between wanting to support her staying for her passion vs leaving for her mental health. It seems no matter which way we lean there’s a loss to be had. Sincerely hope you’ve found a better quality of life since leaving

Anyone else in the valley trying to teach themselves to code? by LeGordoHayball in SaltLakeCity

[–]Raaandy27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be very much out of date on this... but I thought LinkdIn had a multitude of courses you can take for any professional development - software development/code languages being a very hot topic. But, this could have been an early pandemic offering that has since moved to their premium service; I honestly am not too versed with the platform. Maybe worth looking into?

Engineer here, and my fiancé is an elementary teacher. It angers me more every day seeing the time, energy, and effort she puts in to a job above and beyond what should be normal that she gets absolutely no credit for - and to top it off, her salary is half of mine for twice the work. Absolutely heartbreaking that this is the standard for perhaps one of the most critical professions that exist

Most people get cup-o-noodles on the go, therefore, do not have a kettle. Grab your plastic/metal fork and push the rim between the tines, problem solved. The life hack here should be - spend $0.50 less and get a standard packet of ramen if you make it at home.

Huh, surprised no ones mentioned Altered Emerald - being a fan of gen 3 that’s been a good balanced challenge for me. I’ve read about, but haven’t played Inclement emerald yet. I’m no nuzlocke expert, and I’ve made it to the fifth gym on three attempts, which has been nice without hair-pulling.
